Nice picture of the statue, but what is he pointing at? Which direction? South maybe?

It was about time that one of the greatest macedonians gets a statue in the capital. Im glad that they put all those statues in Skopje to honor our Heros who died for a independend and united macedonia. Enough of those Alexander statues, sure he was great, but for me someone like Chento is more worth than 100 Alexanders.

Aleksandar Makedonski is a historical Macedonian NATIONAL SYMBOL whilst Metodija Andonov - Chento, like Goce Delchev, Jane Sandanski, Dame Gruev, and et al, is a NATIONAL HERO. There is a big difference in what each represents and one should not confuse the two.
As it is, I don't think they have placed the Statute of Chento in the best location but I still highly approve of this program.

Latest statue additions to 'Skopje 2014'
There have been several new statues erected in areas os Skopje over the last week or so including a marble statue of Cento in Macedonia Square and bronze statues of St. Cyril and Methodius and their disciples Clement and Nahum of Ohrid in Square Karposhovo Uprising in Skopje, on both sides of the stone bridge.
As we know, these are now the latest additions to the Skopje 2014 project.
Here are some images:
Cento:
St. Cyril and Methodius, Clement and Nahum:
Also, some discussion on the statues can be found here, along with additional photos.
If you would rather read it in Macedonian, just remove the translate part of the URL and you should be good.
Personally I believe the Cento statue was a little off the mark. The pointed finger doesn't appear very natural and looks out of place. A clenched fist or open palm would not only look better, it would also represent meaning and display a stronger message.
As for the statues of St. Cyril and Methodius, Clement and Nahum, the detail is quite impressive and i think they look great. However, after looking at some of the other photos, the surrounding environment is terrible and certainly does not compliment the statues in any sense.
I'm looking forward to seeing the remaining projects, mainly that of Alexander. Please refrain from turning this thread into a debate on money spent on spomenici, rather lets have a discussion on the appropriateness and appearance of the statues and their setting.
It would be great to hear everyones thoughts, cheers.Last edited by EgejskaMakedonia; 06-14-2010, 04:46 AM.
