In September 1991, during the start of the Yugoslav Wars, SR Macedonia holds a referendum of which 72% eligible voters approved independence by 95%, the Albanians and Serbs in the country boycotted the referendum.

In 1992 Serbs of Kumanovo organized themselves in associations and political parties and held demonstrations in support of the Serbian cause in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia. Serbian Radical Party sympathizers in Macedonia made an effort to establish a "Serbian Autonomous Region of Kumanovo Valley and Skopska Crna Gora". In January 1993, 500 Macedonian Serb nationalists gathered in the town of Kučevište, north of Skopje, to protest the police repression against ethnic Serbs on New Year's Eve when 13 Serbian youths were injured. Macedonian Serbs asserted they were mistreated by Macedonian authorities.

Croatian ex Vice Prime Minister Damir Polancanac received 15 month jail sentence for paying an attorney 70,000 Euros for a 19 page 'study' about his Ministry.

Macedonian ex president Branko Crvenkovski paid 340,000 EUR to three 'consultants' out of Slovenia for a study that will help the president counter the Government's stance on the name issue with Athens.

The official contract between ex president Branko Crvenkovski and Dejan Vercikj (136,000 EUR), Predrag Ashanin Gole (84,000 EUR) and Dajana Gutesha (120,000 EUR) is titled "Contract for Short Term Strategy, Goals, and Public Communication"

The Slovenian consultants in their study provide strategy for Crvenkovski how to polarize the country and what to do against the Government to prevent prime minister Gruevski and the nation from success in the name negotiations with Athens.

Each page of this 'contract' costs the taxpayer 3,400 EUR. These are 340,000 EUR of taxpayers money that an ex president spent to get advice for the most damage he can do to his own country.

The Anti-Corruption Committee was seething at the find, but has so far not come up with a public announcement.
Meanwhile, SDSM's spokesman Emilijan Stankovich claimed this is yet more pressure by the Government on other political parties as well as media and businessmen. As irony would have it, the three Slovenian consultants in their study suggest to always complain of "pressure by the Government on political parties, media, businesses"...
