it really doesnt matter what modern greeks think of erecting a statue in athens i wonder how the greeks of his time would have thought of such an idea.
terra nova do you believe the citizens of athens, or the greek colonists in the halkidiki, your supposed ancestors would have applauded such an act.
can you post one example of the greek colonists in macedonia referring to themselves as macedonians like you so readily and foolishly do.Last edited by osiris; 02-18-2009, 01:23 AM.

I for one am disappointed that TN could not grasp some very basic facts about ancient history. That the Macedonians were regarded as very much a different race of people. And that in relatively modern history he attempts to distort the intent of of any Greeks (as few as they were) on Macedonian soil. And then completely disregards the most common people in the region for the last 1500 years .... Macedonians like me.
It is almost comical but ultimately disappointing that he can not be humane for 1 moment.Risto the Great

the fact is that even in phillip and alexandars time when the idea of what it was to be a hellene was changing to the isocratic defintion, of culture and langauge rather than ethnicity, we find time and again macedonians and greeks treated as different people. it really doesnt matter what most modern greeks think, they in the whole are not hellenes anyway, the only opinion that matters is the ancient one.
