GREEKS AGAINST STATUE of ALEKSANDAR in ATHENS

Debate in Greece, one that was kept secret for several weeks by Greek media, perhaps not to embarass the Government.

Thanks to Athens based British journalist from The Guardian, the secret is out. Several prominent (older) Greek historians have been disobeying Athens and had voted against erecting a monument of Alexander the Great.

Greek politicians led by nationalist euforia have pushed for the sculpture to be placed in the center of Athens for greater exposure. However, a handful of historians and archeologists in Athens, who together form a powerful lobby, were against putting a sculpture of the ancient hero in the capital.

According to the group, "Alexander came to Athens as a conqueror, an enemy". The parallel would be if the Polish decided to erect a statue of Hitler in Warsaw.

More Greek historians are raising their voices and displeasure with the Greek Government who via numerous policies spanning 80 years have replaced their history with scenes from a disney movie, the facts with myths.

While trying to usurp the history of a whole region, Athens historians and archeologists are worried Greece may lose the history that rightfully belongs to them.

Thank god there are several respected historians in greece , who are clear on the identity and nationality of aleksandar the great....real historians read the evidence and not a disney story to promote greek hysteria on all things macedonian....

WHY WOULD GREECE WANT TO ERECT A STATUE OF ALEKSANDAR IN THE ATHENIAN CAPITAL....after all aleksandar was an emeny and a pure barbarian to the the greeks.....clearly these intellectuals are not having one iota of the greek propaganda machine ....

ALEKSANDAR will forever remain in the macedonian capital of all free macedonians in Skopje, until the final reunification with the aegean part, where LAEKSANDAR will be put in his birth place...PELLA..........the great macedonian capital, feared by all greeks to this day.....

macedonia will indeed have its great final hour....greeks get ready to say republika makedonija.....your conquerors....

          They should erect a statue.
          Under it, Athens should write:

          "Forever your bitch"
          Risto the Great
          MACEDONIA:ANHEDONIA
"Holding my breath for the revolution."

A statue of Phillip stepping on Demosthenes' throat would be more fitting, with Arrian's words as an inscription: That old racial rivalry between Greek and Macedonian.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

Controversy over where to put sculpture of military commander means it has been gathering dust for 17 years

For a warrior king who had conquered most of the known world by the age of 33, Alexander the Great never flinched when it came to a fight. But even he might have been left powerless by a row in Greece over the location of a statue, carved in his likeness in 1972.

Seventeen years after its acquisition by the Greek culture ministry, the rendition of the military commander has been gathering dust in a basement storeroom because of fierce controversy over where to put the sculpture. Nationalist-minded politicians, on both sides of the spectrum, believe the statue "rightfully" belongs to a prominent square in the heart of ancient Athens. There, they say, the Macedonian king would not only receive maximum viewing but the reverence he deserves from a people who see themselves as his rightful descendants.

Had it not been for archaeologists, that might have happened. But the purveyors of Greece's past - a powerful lobby in this antiquities-rich country - have strongly resisted the move, saying Alexander came to the capital "as a conqueror". The row might have gone unnoticed had it not been for the recently reinvigorated intensity of the name dispute between Athens and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Since it proclaimed independence in 1991, Greece has contended that its neighbour's determination to call itself Macedonia has concealed territorial ambitions over its own province, which bears the same nomenclature. Relations between the two reached a new low last year when the ex-Yugoslav republic named its international airport and highway after Alexander the Great. They plummeted further when Athens blocked Macedonia's membership of Nato - and threatened to use its right of veto, again, to stop the ex-communist nation joining the EU.

Raising the bar further, a mayor in Skopje proposed last week that the Macedonian capital's main square be adorned with a "singing" statue of Alexander mounted on a horse.

By erecting the statue in a fountain that belted out tunes of the late Toše Proeski - the nation's most famous crooner who was killed in a car accident in Croatia in 2007 - the nation, she said, would give celebration to its two most famous sons, in a way that Greece never could.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

Were it not for the existence of the Macedonian state the Greek lies and manipulation of history would continue to flourish. The very fact of our reality will always keep their lies in check.

I am of the opinion that the statue has no buisiness in Athens either
If you have to put it somewhere, Id suggest Thesaloniki

                          Here it is...

"There was a violent Struggle. Darius' Greeks fought to thrust the Macedonians back into the water and save the day for their right wing, already in retreat, while the Macedonians, in their turn, with Alexander's triumph plain before their eyes, were determined to equal his success and not forfeit the proud title of invincible, hitherto universally bestowed upon them. The fight was further embittered by the old racial rivalry of Greek and Macedonian."

                            Thanks Napoleon.

                            And there it is Terra.

I think that the hypothesis that the ancient Macedonians were Greeks has been proven to be false, (actually, the evidence was always there), and should now be discarded completely.

You want Macedonia? Come and take it from my blood!

A prosperous, independent and free Macedonia for Macedonians will be the ultimate revenge to our enemies.
