It is bit of both, corruption and capitulation. I say that, partly, because I refuse to believe that the MOC did not realize the potential fallout from such a move. Do they actually think that recognizing the BOC as a mother church would get MOC recognition from other churches? It certainly will not. Instead, it will infuriate the SOC and cause wider disturbances in the Orthodox Community. At the same time, our identity is sacrificed by associating us with the BOC.

Any time Macedonia faces an assault from one neighbor, it then turns to another neighbor to help solve the problem instead of turning inward.

The MOC Archbishop Stefan and other bishops have been successfully bribed before. It's just an exploding and never-ending trend within Macedonia.

No need to be patronizing. I, like anyone who's had time to read even just a few threads on this forum, am perfectly aware that the Macedonian government is a sellout and that people are turning a blind eye to blatant human rights violations and double standards. My knowledge of church hierarchy is limited so I'm not sure if the Macedonian church is capitulating to obstructions imposed by other institutions or selling out just because it can. Being able to explain how churches work and exactly why this whole thing is unnecessary and probably unconstitutional would also help explain the problem to people who don't understand what's going on. It's like how explaining to people that the very existence of name 'debate' is a human rights violation will get their attention better than just saying it's offensive.

Macedonia's Lonely Church Seeks Bulgarian 'Parent'

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church, BPC, faces a dilemma over whether to accept an unusual appeal from the unrecognised Macedonian Orthodox Church to assume parental authority over it.

Bulgarian analysts begging the Bulgarian Church to seize this once in a lifetime opportunity to become MOC's mother church:

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church should use the historic opportunity to become a mother church of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, commented by some analysts in Bulgaria on the request of the MOC for Eucharistic unity with the BOC.

Milen Vrabevski, president of the Bulgarian Pamet Foundation in a statement on the Bulgarian National Television, says that BPC should accept the request of the MOC because, as he states, "there will not be a second such chance".

    - I appeal to the Bulgarian patriarch Neofit to take the position of a spiritual father and to think that our spiritual brothers live on the other side. It is true to support the people in Macedonia, said Vrabevski.

According to him, in the fall there were meetings between Bulgarian and Macedonian bishops in Bulgaria, but the BOC Synod is still afraid to take the first step.

The former Director of the Bulgarian Directorate for Religion Lubomir Mladenov, who is one of the initiators of the contacts between the Macedonian and Bulgarian churches, is also accepted to accept the request from the MOC.

    - It is inexcusable to miss this historical opportunity. Patriarch Neofit in your events should regard as a continuation of his consistent work and through his personal convictions to bring things to a good end, says Mladenov.

The Bulgarian National Television also featured the letter from the Holy Synod of the MOC - OA in which he urged the BOC to establish "Eucharistic unity with the renewed Ohrid Archbishopric in the face of the Macedonian Orthodox Church".

    - The Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric will recognize and recognize the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - the Bulgarian Patriarchate as the Mother Church, which first accepts and recognizes its autocephaly, identifies and actualizes it, represents and advocates for it before the Ecumenical Patriarchate and other local churches, says the letter from MOC-OA.

Bishop Nahum and Metropolitan of Strumica, according to MIA, said in an interview with Bulgarian TV that a new page was opened in the issue of church status of the MOC-OA, explaining that its autocephaly has not been recognized for political reasons.

    - Macedonia and Bulgaria share a common religious history. BPC has a chance with the very recognition of MOC-OA to become the mother of MOC-OA. It is a rare historical opportunity that the BOC should not miss, said Bishop Naum.

For the letter and requests of the MOC-OA, there are no reactions from the Synod of BOC or from the Bulgarian patriarch Neophytes.

Can churches not just flip off all the other churches and be independent? Bogomilism was the movement that involved people being able to practice their religion without having to be validated by institutions right? Let's bring that back.

We learned of extremely shady backroom deals in seeking acknowledgement with the SoC. And now we have it with the BoC.

Macedonian communities in the Diaspora have (often) violently opposed the confused agenda of the MoC-OA. I am sick of the people who still feel the only authentic religious event is one administered by MoC-OA when this obvious kind of rot exists at the head.

Macedonians everywhere need to be very careful about their allegiances. I fear we are going back to 150 years ago and the only real Macedonians who can be trusted are those you know in your own village.

    Disgusting!
