      I don't think Greece can grow their way out of their problems. There is some more pain for them down the line as they reconcile their way back to reality. Transparency is a bitch.

          Nigel Farage is a smart man...he believes all European countries should go back to their currencies and the European Union ought to exist for political and social connection as it did very firstly. Yet the greed of those at Brussels and other EU banks has them illogically pumping billions of dollars into failing economies...including the 50 billion Euro that France and Germany are giving to Greece when there's millions of Greeks on the streets protesting no more loans. The people at Brussels see this as a stepping stone in the progress of the EU becoming a massive power, yet as Nigel say's their idiocy will wait until the problem becomes epically big and then they'll be in over their heads. If the Greek economy and other economies like Spain and Ireland default, then it will cause slight damage to Eurozone banks...however if a default with tons of loans is made then those very banks might collapse and the EU will be in big shit.

          Greek political frauds pudged numbers to get the Euro and then saw success shortly after with a climax in their tourist industry, but then tough times came in the world economy along with Greece's. Had Greece waited to join the Euro by now in 2012 like Poland did, then everything would be a-okay.

            Definitely agree with you on that sir george can you imagine it was ridiculous getting 2 bailout attempts & maybe a third.The eu should just pull the plug on them & not waste any time getting hold of the assets.

              Our govt should just pull the plug on Europe.
              I have no problem staying here in Greece if we default. I would rather struggle with the rest of the Greeks to slowly rebuild this country rather than to see it committed to extortionist policies from the EU ( If you can call it that nowadays )

                    Well good on them

                    But we are talking about a plastic nation here (Greece) who throughout their history have been heavily supported by powerful west and look how far they have gone. What hope you puppets got without the west having their hands up your arse?

                      Puppets ? We didnt build the largest US Embassy in the Balkans. We didnt recognize Kosovo, and we didnt go into Iraq or Afhganistan.

                      Anyway, time will tell.

                        Yes our government are puppets but its only a recent thing and our history was not built on it. But the difference is (according to your examples) we are supporting the west, while i suggest the west created and ever since financially supports Greece. Now before you play your tricks again and dilute the original discussion, lets get back to the important question (and Argentina is not an answer)

                        With out the west,

                            Greece will re-build, there is no doubt in my mind.
                            It will quite possibly have to snub the EU & IMF if this is to happen. The debt they have now amassed is unsustainable and the only way out is bankruptcy in my opinion. Greece will return and it will be a better Greece for it.

                              I agree Risto, only to the point that Greece undergoes some major restructuring. Greece has the potential to function in a sound economic environment in both government and private sectors. They have to realise they aren't the affluent society of Germany or France, for eg.

                              It would help if they fire the 1 million public servants that don't do any work, or stop handing out bonuses for washing your hands or to pay media for anti Macedonian propaganda.

                              If Greece can't realign with the rest of society, for me the glass is half empty.

                                I saw two different article in Turkish media about the corruption in Greece. One of them was so funny;
                                According to the ethnos daily newspaper in Greece, more than 1000 retired army officials have gone under penile prosthesis operation for free in the last year in state hospitals by using falsified papers to show it as like some other type of surgical operation to be able to leech money from social security!!! And their wives was also doing same for cosmetic surgeries!!! According to the newspaper, this was so common thing for the doctors too

                                And this is an article from German media. This is a google translation;
                                That is why the Greeks never crawl out of the crisis
                                + + + 18 months salary pensions + + + + + + double-bonus for hand-washing and punctuality + + +-free days have 28 hours + + + 800-million salary politicians want to look up + + +

                                Do you know a country where 22 years pension is paid to a dead and no one notices it? Right! Greece!

                                Prime minister Giorgos Papandreou While driving for a year to pressure the EU into a harsh austerity plan: For wages, salaries and pensions, 20 percent were canceled. But resistance is growing. Not only the powerful trade unions stick to err privileges.

                                • 800 former politicians demanding retroactive more money - around 80 million €.

                                • Employees of Papandreou will continue to receive 16 months salary.

                                • Employees in state enterprises receive a bonus for including punctuality, washing hands and for work at temperatures between 0 and 8 degrees. Even for the operation of a copier, there was extra money. A state employee was able to increase his base salary of 3908 € 8675 € so on.

                                • bus drivers begin their official working hours according to the contract already with the way to work, even for warming up the bus engine, there is a bonus.

                                • Days off the train drivers are charged with 28 instead of 24 hours.

                                • Priests get an allowance for each service.

                                • Certain state-owned enterprises like the oil company "Hellenic Petroleum" There are 18 monthly salaries a year. A night watchman will receive up to EUR 72 000. And each employee receives per year, five-day luxury vacation in a hotel of his choice. The Group's employees earn compared to 50 percent more German colleagues.

                                • Long-term high-ranking politicians, according to Greek media with a "golden handshake" to be adopted in the retirement of up to 250 000 €. Parliamentarians who are here since 1993 get double pensions.

                                • One in four workers is employed by the Greek State. The state-owned enterprises to make all but lost, the state railway OSE has around 11 billion euros of debt

                                • More than 200 000 illegal houses are not recognized in Greece until today. Tax revenues? Zero!

                                • A tax investigator zwackt from € 2 million. And even monks are involved in tax trickery! On Mount Athos illegal land transactions were made.

                                • The state guarantees the pharmacists still have a profit margin of at least 35 percent. Lies with a pharmacy per 1200 inhabitants Greece in the EU at the top.

                                • Nobel was just caught in the Athens district of a physician who has ten million euros in the account - but only with the tax 30 000 € asserted.

                                • Because of undeclared work and (value added) tax escape Greek tax authorities estimated 30 billion euros annually.
