    Ozimak,

I know Greek Americans that are not Greek Orthodox nor would they know what a side order of baklava is if you slapped em upside the head with it. Trust me on this one.

Vol, most 'greeks' are exactly like that, just look at your friend Vicki...I'm sure you guys could entertain yourselves hours on end over a good cup of 'greek' coffee and you wouldn't be any the wiser...

You gotta love the infernal grkoman, so paranoid about his existence and acceptance on this planet that even in the land of the 'free', or whatever it is that the fuckin' Americans are now calling their country, that the grkoman sees it necessary to put his offspring in 'greek' school...

My sister has little connection to being Greek or wanting to be learn about her possible Macedonian background. She has married an American. I'm still trying to figure things out. Growing up in North Hills Pittsburgh we had a Greek community but there was no Macedonian connection for us.
Vicki your assumption of Macedonians in your community is clouded. Greece will do anything to try and hide us under the carpet. Maybe you were not aware of this?

Pittsburgh 'legends' help reopen Hill rec center

                    Fun.
Pittsburgh 'legends' help reopen Hill rec center: "Some of the greatest names in Pittsburgh basketball history began their careers in some capacity at the Ammon Recreation Center on Bedford Avenue in the Hill District, and yesterday many of them gathered for two reasons -- to be honored as 'Ammon legends' as well as to celebrate the reopening of the historic building.

The building, which had been run by the city of Pittsburgh until 2004, had been kept open by a cooperative effort of a number of groups and spearheaded by Macedonia Baptist Church until last year when a lack of funds forced it to close its doors.

But thanks in large part to the efforts of Pittsburgh Parks and Recreation Director Duane Ashley and Councilwoman Tonya Payne and with the blessing of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, $200,000 in funding was secured within the budget to remodel the building and open it once again."

are these macedonians or grkomani vicki?

Makedonetz, this was on Greek TV by the way. As far as the baptism name is concerned he went to a Greek Orthodox Priest. Couldnt he have gone to the Macedonian Church in Macedonia to get his child baptised with the name he wanted ? Or was the MOC non existant back then ?

Its common knowledge that in the church they baptise you with the full Christian name then you call your child with any other name you like. For example: Vasiliki = Vasso or Vicky. But you dont baptise your kid Vicky. Its not rocket science.

No. It is common knowledge in Greece that they will baptise you with a Greek (or Greek sounding) name. They will simply not let you use any other name in your democratic country. Don't you know this?

Of particular humour to me are the pagan era Hellenic names that pass for Christian names.

Risto its the Greek Orthodox Church. It makes sense. Is the Macedonian Orthodox Church different ? If I got to the MOC and ask to have my child baptised " Bob " will they let me ?

My children were baptised in the Macedonian Orthodox Church. Suffice to say they are not typical Macedonian names, and the priest had no problems , so am not understanding your defence of the Greeks against the Macedonians here.

incidentally, my mother when she was christened, in that un democratic authoritarian Nazi country they call a democracy, in Aegean Macedonia was not allowed to go by the name given to her , and was surprised when I found out the name she goes by now was not what she was given by the Grease pigs

Again, why even go to the Greek Orthodox Church for a baptism ? This is not something that happens to Macedonians only but anyone that wants to convert. You have to respect the Church you attend to. Even Catholics provide Christian names during conversion or baptism. I dont know what practices the Macedonian Church employs, but Im sure you have to respect their traditions to be a member. I think this goes for all religious organizations. Some people are overreaching.
