On Monday I went to the funeral of an old woman originally from Egejska, the mother of somebody that I know in my community. I struggled to contain my emotions listening to the eulogy, the sad early years that many of these people suffered that has haunted them for the rest of their lives, the hardships and terror of the 'greek' civil war, those lucky enough to escape the evil retribution of the 'greek' regime then were shuffled from one country to the next until in the case of this woman, ending up in Tashkent before enduring another period of country hopping until they eventually settled in Australia...along the way some even adopted the many orphaned children that they found in the various refugee camps.
This dear and brave womans grandchildren recounted these horrors reading her eulogy...may she rest in peace and like her granddaughter said..."baba now you're free to return home"
While others will continue to walk around with their heads buried in their arse at 'greek' school...
