European criticism of the World Health Organization's handling of the H1N1 pandemic intensified Friday with the release of two reports that accused the agency of exaggerating the threat posed by the virus and not disclosing influence by the pharmaceutical industry on its recommendations for how countries should respond.
The WHO's response caused widespread, unnecessary fear and prompted countries around the world to waste millions of dollars, according to one report. At the same time, the Geneva-based arm of the United Nations relied on advice from experts with ties to drug makers in developing the guidelines it used to encourage countries to stockpile millions of doses of antiviral medications, according to the second report.
The reports outlined the drumbeat of criticism that has arisen, primarily in Europe, of how the world's leading health organization responded to the first influenza pandemic in more than four decades.
"For WHO, its credibility has been badly damaged," wrote Fiona Godlee, the editor of the BMJ, a prominent British medical journal, that published one of the reports. "WHO must act now to restore its credibility."
A spokesman for the WHO, along with several independent experts, however, strongly disputed the reports, saying they misrepresented the seriousness of the pandemic and the WHO's response, which was carefully formulated and necessary given the potential threat.
Matters became much worse for the WHO, after German papers revealed that pharma giant Baxter applied for a patent on the H1N1 virus 1 Year before the outbreak.Comment

It’s a frigging wast product. It used to go out into the environment until the government made the companies have to capture it because of environment concerns. This must have been an extra expense to them. How wonderful to turn an expense into revenue with the governments complicacy. Its discussing.

Quite a number of years ago there was a TV special where they were doing much the same thing. It was all a big hoo haa. A drill was attached to a robotic vehicle like a remote control car to travel the tiny passage. It was then to drill trough a small wall which supposedly covered another chamber. They all said how curious a chamber would be built at the end of such a length yet impossibly narrow and short passage that no human even a child could go down. What could be in the chamber.
The robot travelled down the passage with drill and camera running. While it was supposedly doing it business the program cut to comments from various Egyptologist and commentators and to mini discussions of the pyramids and Egyptian matters in general.
The program came back to say the robot had broke its drill and as this was a specialty drill they could not continue immediately but they did have a second robot ready only the drilling mechanism would need to be inspected to see what the damage was and what changes would need to me made so that it would work.
I never heard anything ever again. I do not believe they could not drill through to the chamber. I believe it was a staged media stunt because to close down the pyramid for an extended time would raise questions. Leaks could occur so the option is to hide in public. I think there is a lot of information that has been gathered and squirreled away to be examined in detail.

Space telescope Kepler, sent into space just six days, find 140 new planets like Earth, which prompted the hope that there are worlds like ours.
The mission of the massive telescope that is to find planets like Earth orbiting other stars. The camera of 95 pixels, Kepler records and analyze planets.
The new results contradict early theories that argue that small Earth-like planets are very rare.

Fosilizirani remains found on Mars
The studies of horizons on Mars, scientists found rocks which are believed to contain remains of former fosilizirani living beings, says BBC.

Computer scientists solve Bermuda Triangle mystery
Sydney, 10 August 2010 (MIA) - According to two research scientists the mystery of vanished ships and airplanes in the region dubbed "The Bermuda Triangle" has been solved.
Step aside outer space aliens, time anomalies, submerged giant Atlantean pyramids and bizarre meteorological phenomena ... the "Triangle" simply suffers from an acute case of gas.
Natural gas—the kind that heats ovens and boils water—specifically methane, is the culprit behind the mysterious disappearances and loss of water and air craft.
The evidence for this astounding new insight into a mystery that's bedeviled the world is laid out in a research paper published in the American Journal of Physics.
Professor Joseph Monaghan researched the hypothesis with honor student David May at the Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
The two hypothesized that large methane bubbles rising from the ocean floor might account for many, if not all, of the mysterious disappearances of ships and aircraft at specific locales around the world.
Researcher Ivan T. Sanderson identified these mystery areas during the 1960s. Sanderson described the actual shape of these regions as more like a lozenge rather than a triangle. Some of the more famous spots include an area in the Sea of Japan, the North Sea, and of course the infamous "Bermuda (or Devil's) Triangle."
Oceanographic surveyors of the sea floor in the area of the Bermuda Triangle and the North Sea region between continental Europe and Great Britain have discovered significant quantities of methane hydrates and older eruption sites.
Because of the correlations and existing data, the two envisioned what would happen when gigantic methane bubbles explode from natural fissures on the seafloor.
The methane—normally frozen at great pressure as gas hydrates embedded within subterranean rock—can become dislodged and transform into gaseous bubbles expanding geometrically as they explode upwards. When these bubbles reach the surface of the water they soar into the air, still expanding upwards and outwards.
Any ships caught within the methane mega-bubble immediately lose all buoyancy and sink to the bottom of the ocean. If the bubbles are big enough and possess a high enough density they can also knock aircraft out of the sky with little or no warning. Aircraft falling victim to these methane bubbles will lose their engines-perhaps igniting the methane surrounding them-and immediately lose their lift as well, ending their flights by diving into the ocean and swiftly plummeting.Comment
