Greece: More than half police officers voted Neonazi party

Upsetting result revealed by newspaper "To Vima"

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, MAY 11 - More than half of all police officers in Greece voted for pro-Nazi party Chrysi Avgi' (Golden Dawn) in the elections of May 6. This is the disconcerting result of an analysis carried out by the authoritative newspaper To Vima (TheTribune) in several constituencies in Athens, where 5,000 police officers in service in the Greek capital also cast their ballot.

At some polling stations Chrysi Avgi' obtained 19 to 24% of votes.

Others, like Agios Panteleimonas and Kypseli, traditional strongholds of the party, reached 15 to 18%. According to the newspaper, at the 11 polling stations (from 806 to 816) located near the police station (Ellas), Chrysi Avgi' received most votes, reaching 18.64% at station 813 and 23.67% at number 816.

Other polling stations situated at a short distance from the ones mentioned before, where police officers do not vote, recorded 12-14% of votes for the Golden Dawn party.

Moreover, the four polling stations located near the riot police station (MAT), used by the police, recorded percentages between 13 and 19 for Chrysi Avgi'.

These figures, To Vima underlines, are impressive, considering the fact that other polling stations close to the riot police station reached 7-10% of votes for the pro-Nazi party. Based on the electoral lists, 550 to 700 people have voted at each of these voting stations, of which 20 to 30% police officers. This means, the newspaper worked out, that 45 to 59% of police officers have voted for Chrysi Avgi'. (ANSAmed).

Generally, these groups created and then supported by the intelligence agencies and their agents inside the police force. Just like the neo-nazi groups in Germany supported by German police department with authentic but fake IDs, passports etc. This happens everywhere in the world and i am quite sure that this "Golden Dawn" is no different and they are using their country`s hard times to gain more power these days.

On Wednesday’s operation the police openly co-operated with members of the Nazi group Golden Dawn. The two have cooperated many times in the past, whether openly or in disguise. In the videos and photos below members of the GD chant ‘Greece belongs to the Greeks’, sway crow-bars and throw stones to the anarchists who chant ‘the tin-cans have yet to rot’, a reference to the execution (even slaying with tin-cans) of members of the Nazi-collaborating Security Battalions by partisans of EAM-ELAS in September 1944, following the battle between them in the town of Meligalas, SW Peloponnese.

Locals help Athens police beat up an immigrant
A controversial video revealing apparent police brutality is causing a stir on Greek social networking sites. It shows uniformed police officers, assisted by passers-by wearing tracksuits, beating up an immigrant of Asian origin.

The incident took place on the night of January 3, in Amerikis Square in the centre of Athens, but the video was only recently posted on the Internet. The police officers continue to hit the man as they walk him to their patrol car. Several onlookers stand and watch the scene.

Incidents involving immigrants are now becoming increasingly politicised in Greece. The country is one of the main gateways into the European Union for Asian and African migrants. Organisations defending human rights have announced an increase in the number of assaults on immigrants, particularly Afghans and Pakistanis, which they attribute to the economic crisis and a rise in unemployment. Immigrants are targeted by small far-right groups who accuse them of stealing Greek jobs.

The openly xenophobic Golden Dawn party, which has said it would like to kick all foreigners out of the country, won 21 seats in the parliamentary elections that took place on May 6.

Nikos Soulis, a filmmaker, filmed this video in January but only posted it on the Internet in April;

"I was at home when I heard people shouting outside. Over the past three years I have witnessed many incidents in my neighbourhood, so this time I decided to take my camera.

I saw an Asian man being stopped by the police. Some of my neighbours were helping them. The man had been trying to set fire to a rubbish bin. They hit him repeatedly, even after he had been handcuffed. And when I say “they”, I mean both the police and my neighbours.

I went to the police station to report what I had seen. The police officers told me that their colleagues would be identified and reprimanded [The inquiry is currently underway].

After I posted the video online, many insulting comments were written on my blog. Most of them were from Golden Dawn sympathisers. To intimidate me, a couple of people even tried to get into my home by posing as police officers. I went back to the police station to ask for police protection. But as I suspect that 50% of the police force voted for Golden Dawn, I’m not sure how much good it will do. I’m keeping a low profile in my neighbourhood at the moment and I make sure that I never go home alone."

Skirmishes are all too frequent in Athens nowadays. The rise in prominence of the Nazi Golden Dawn trying to instil zero tolerance and a clean Athens will come at a heavy cost.

Grease relies heavily on the tourism industry for prosperity. I do not see the skirmishes letting up anytime soon. People will choose to stay away from Athens as a tourist destination and rightfully so given what I see on video clips.

Tourists can be mistaken for immigrants hence people's apprehensiveness for going there.

Its all too easy to blame the immigrants for the country's problems and this is the sole purpose for Golden Dawn. Actually the country has been mismanaged by the heads of government and has led to their demise and tough austerity measures.

Ahh, yeah, beat the shit out of someone starting fires.
If you treat it as a small thing, no big deal really, and give them a slap on the wrist they'll push the envelope further next time, but if you break that arm it wont be pushing any envelope anywhere and others will learn not to even think of trying.

If the RoM police had a zero tolerance on any Albanian infringing the law and backed up by a 'zlatna zora' then things would blow up or they would shut up but at least it wouldn't be the 'death by 1000 paper cuts' - is killing you softly better then killing you in one blow?

Do you really think the average Brit, Frenchy, Germ, ect, or Yank, Cannak, Aussie or Jap or Ching is going to stay away for this reason? I don't think so.

Allowing 1 million in when Greece is about 10 million is too much.
RoM let in 150000-300000 refugees from Kosovo with the RoM population being only 2.5 million and nothing but problems have stemmed from it ever since. Being overrun is no fun and don't think the reffos will be grateful. In their eyes your there to be used and abused, if you let them. That's just the plain truth - I have a great need and if I need to step on you to get it, then so be it - around the world except in the West where we're told the utopian lie, "everyone should love everyone" and are punished for it if we don't repeat and believe the lie.

Being racist is disrespecting others purely because of their race/creed/color,ect.

Respecting someone does not mean letting them take advantage of you - it's not my responsibility to find a solution for you, your not my brother - you're only disrespecting yourself.

Distorting/corrupting the definition of racist and respect to include this will only produce distorted/corrupt results. The plain truth.

I really don't like it when people repeat "the lie" even unknowingly or unintentionally, it only perpetuates it.
