    Documents of Macedonian Immigration

As Macedonian immigrants arrived to U.S. they were living the full freedom od self determination.

From the beginning of the I World War in 1914, the U.S.A. holded up a neutral position and managed to kept itself away being involved in the "Big War".

But that position was abandoned in 1917, when 24 millions od American recruits were sent to participate in the war.

Among those recruits were soldiers of Macedonian origin from Ohio.

Facing the opportunity to declare themself as "Bulgarians" and to avoid the recruitation, they chosed to remain Macedonians, and gave their lives in the war.

According to the proclamation of the President of the U.S.A., Woodrow Wilson, all man of German origin, including the allies of Germany, were declared as alienated enemies and were discharged from army service.

So, Bulgaria as a German ally was included in this proclamation of the U.S. President. All man of Bugarian origin were released from the recruitation.

These brave Macedonians, chosed to fight in this war along with the American troops, and to die only as MACEDONIANS

            Documents of Macedonian Immigration

These are excerpts of documents from the Russian imperial government in 18th century AD, showing the presence of the Macedonian nation in imperial Russia's territory and military units.
This is just another reply to all those who claim that the Macedonian nation is not Macedonian and that it has been "invented" within Yugoslavia.
These documents (their sources are also given, for reference) clearly state that the Macedonian nation was mentioned as existing alongside the Serbian, Bulgarian and Vlach nations (but not as being a part of either of those) two centuries before Yugoslavia existed.

Credits: http://www.gate.net/~mango/18thC_Russian_Docs.htm is the link where the images of these documents can be found.

              Here are some of them:

Ние македонците не сме ни срби, ни бугари, туку просто Македонци. Ние ги симпатизираме и едните и другите, кој ќе не ослободи, нему ќе му речеме благодарам, но србите и бугарите нека не забораваат дека Македонија е само за Македонците.

                      The Macedonian regiment in Russia!

The author present the data about members of Serbian regiments in New Serbia, that is, Slavonic Serbia, who declared themselves as Macedonians. In Sevic’s regiment 74 persons declared that they came from the “Macedonian nation”. According to the Russian author Kabuzanov, in 1754 in New Serbia there were 2,225 persons, out of which 124 Macedonians.
In 1759 the Macedonian hussar regiment was formed. The commander of the regiment was Aleksij Kostjurin, and the supreme commander of all regiments was Jovan Horvat. According to the data from 1765–1769 out of the total of 271 merchants who were registered in the “Nezin Greek Fraternity”, 54 declared that they were from the “Macedonian province”, mostly from Kostur, Thessalonica, Vodena, Skoplje and Strumica.
The Macedonian regiment was terminated in 1773. The dislocated population adapted to the new environment and by the time passing they became ethnically assimilated.

                        The Macedonian Diaspora

Significant Macedonian communities can also be found in the traditional immigrant-receiving nations, as well as in Western European countries. It should be noted that census data in many European countries (such as Italy and Germany) does not take into account the ethnicity of émigrés from the Republic of Macedonia:

Argentina: Many Macedonians of Argentina are the descendants of the "pečalbari" (seasonal workers) who came to Argentina in the early 20th century. Many decided to stay in Argentina setting up Macedonian colonies in the Pampas and other regions. Most Macedonians can be found in Buenos Aires, the Pampas and Córdoba. An estimated 30,000 Macedonians can be found in Argentina.

Australia: The official number of Macedonians in Australia by birthplace or birthplace of parents is 83,893 (2001). The main Macedonian communities are found in Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Canberra and Perth. (The 2006 Australian Census included a question of 'ancestry' which, according to Members of the Australian-Macedonian Community, this will result in a 'significant' increase of 'ethnic Macedonians' in Australia. However, the 2006 census recorded 83,983 people of Macedonian (ethnic) ancestry.)

Canada: The Canadian census in 2001 records 37,705 individuals claimed wholly or partly Macedonian heritage in Canada , although community spokesmen have claimed that there are actually 100,000-150,000 Macedonians in Canada

USA: A significant Macedonian community can be found in the United States of America. The official number of Macedonians in the USA is 49,455 (2004). The Macedonian community is located mainly in Michigan, New York, Ohio, Indiana and New Jersey.

Germany: There are an estimated 61,000 citizens of the Republic of Macedonia in Germany (mostly in the Ruhrgebiet) (2001).

Italy: There are 74, 162 citizens of the Republic of Macedonia in Italy (Foreign Citizens in Italy).

Switzerland: In 2006 the Swiss Government recorded 60,362 Macedonian Citizens living in Switzerland.

Romania: Ethnic Macedonians are an officially recognised minority group in Romania. They have a special reserved seat in the nations parliament. In 2002, they numbered 731.

Slovenia: Ethnic Macedonians began relocating to Slovenia in the 1950s when the two regions formed a part of a single country, Yugoslavia.

Other significant ethnic Macedonian communities can also be found in the other Western European countries such as Austria, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, etc. Also in Uruguay, with a significant population in Montevideo.
