i haven't provided personal stuff as i merely pointed out what others are doing is spending what they haven't got.The fighter jets have been in waiting for 20 years & are long overdue.
Thats the current status we spent 20 billion i think thats worth it spending.
As far as future technology youre all wrong technology is not ready. The windpower costs $2 per kilowatt to produce power where as coal is 25 cents a kolowatt.Give me coal anyday.Solar power costs $1.60 a kiolowatt. So at current costs youd be mad to take up
technology. Its too costly. The answer is use coal that is the cheapest The chinese produce electricity at 5cents a kilowatt. We give it away coal for next to nothing. They use it.We are too scared to use it due to the greens.Man made carbon is less than 1% .Australia produces ),0010% hardly worth worrying aboutWhere as the chinese make a power plant coal driven of 1 a week and they produce o,oo8% of carbon pollution.Did i say pollution but scientists will tell you carbon is necessay to life it is a trace element about 1% of the atmospheric gases. Also all that global warming is a mularkey as the world is NOT WARMING as they say BUT THE WORLD IS COOLING & we are heading into a MINI ICEAGE.WE can safely use up our coal ,we have as much as 400 years & beyond.
A smart country would.THe most it can do is produce a bit more carbon gas to heat up the planet extremely low percentage increase.

    lol affluent socialism
    Social libertarianism has its advanntages

I like the idea RTG has of investing superannuation in building up infrastructure.
And Phoenix agree with your viewpoints.

We need foresight, in investing within this country, creates employment, and we need investment in sustainable clean energy.

There is a professor in Massachusetts who with his students has devised using nanotechnology a small cell using clean energy to power a home - this is what we need, investment in future technology .

    George, your rhetoric is misguided.
How about providing alternatives and solutions.
Not everyone is in their eyeballs in debt, and still struggling from situations and circumstances out of their control.
Perhaps you can use the spend, spend , spend and ask your mate the prime minister to stop investing in the junk metal fighter jets for a start.

We have the resources and the intelligence in moving this country ahead , there is no scope for this with the current labor/liberal shitholes who are intent on ruling rather than governance

When you get a treasurer deliver a budget in his own words state " my wife handles the budgeting in my household I dont have any idea " be afraid. Be very afraid.

How is the average citizen a capitalist?

Does owning one house and one car make you a capitalist?

Do you believe the government is a capitalist?

They investors that we are indebted to... they are the real capitalist.

I thought in order to be a capitalist you need to capitalize on something?

I hear a lot of people bad mouthing socialism and communism but they themselves are in fact not capitalist because they have not capitalized on anything... what are they?
Debt is a fundamental challenge to every political ideology, it isn't immune to any system...whether it's the USA or the USSR...it's how smart you are with your debt that's important.

You can make it work work for you or against you...

Risto, I aspire to a form of affluent socialism...

There's probably many ways to attract infrastructure investment and control debt at the same time. I just don't buy the all debt is bad argument peddled by Abbott or that a budget must be in surplus...

    George and Redsun,

In your personal life, I'd imagine you've borrowed money from a bank to purchase something, perhaps a home through a mortgage facility or an impulsive buy using a credit card...those purchases have most probably a debt component. Some people manage their debt responsibly others less so. Some of these purchases create longer term wealth through the appreciation of assets, some have no long term value and will depreciate.

Governments do exactly the same thing but on a massive scale but the management of the debt should still come with responsibility...that's all I'm suggesting.
Debt should not be feared and most of the time you have to spend money to make money.

I say to take advantage of cheap money markets, build massive infrastructure projects that will stimulate and protect the economy that in turn builds stability and confidence and all of you jolly little capitalists can sleep comfortably at night knowing that the great masses of unwashed won't be revolting anytime soon...

    George,

You are all for cutting spending and living within your needs.....
What is your point of view regarding the purchase of Jets worth 20 Billion?

Also what is your stance on raising pension age to 70?
Should we go further with the menace to our economy, why don't we make it mandatory to euthanise old people once at 70, that would fix that problem.

Phoenix how will we pay of this debt?

A governments borrows money… it is in debt… it taxes the citizens of the country to pay of its debt.

A government must encourage the country to export, when a countries export declines the government will increases the tax on the citizens.

A government has failed the citizens, when it gives up on export and allows foreign investors to make the profits on the export instead.

The government misses out on a percentage of the profit, how will they collect that amount? The only way they seem to know how to now… create more taxes

phoenix I don't wear budgie snuglers only to the beach.ou call that we don't have a debt crisis we need to borrow more?what for so we can waste it & burden our children with a debt.Do you know the labor party ran out of money & so it tried to borrow money look at what responsible govt has got us no where.Put someone else in & we are getting somewhere by spending more you are going to raise interest rates & inflation.
so phoenix we should only borrow if we really need to .Live within your needs .

George, have you started wearing red budgie smugglers and hating women as well?

The sky isn't falling down my friend, really it's not...Australia hasn't got a "debt crisis", we've never lived in an "age of entitlement" and we'll never "stop the boats" nor should we fear the "illegals" once they get here.

If you want progress in society and standards of living, a means to that end is the borrowing of money and the subsequent debt. Gone are the days when you could save up and buy a house, car or any big ticket item with cash.
Debt is the acceptable outcome of all investment, personal and government.

The only responsibility is that a government be accountable for the money it borrows.
We are living in an age where 'cheap' money is available and a responsible government should be tapping into that 'cheap' money to build a better Australia, this in turn will future proof our infrastructure and the investments will create employment and the cogs of capitalism will freely turn...

"Spend, spend, spend" should be your slogan George, spend like there's no tomorrow...
