Skopje Becoming a Tourist Mecca PDF Print E-mail
    Thursday, 18 August 2011

Last year most foreign tourists visited Ohrid, but this year most of them went to the capital, Skopje. Of total 55,323 tourists in June, nearly one half spent their vacations in Skopje, whereas the rest decided on spa resorts and other tourist destinations.

Tourist season in Macedonia started with a quarter more foreign tourists than last year. According to the data of the Macedonian State Statistical Office, in June 25% percent more foreigners visited Macedonia compared to the same month last year.

Most tourists came from Turkey, Greece, the UK and the Netherlands. However, foreign guests spend on average 2.8 nights in Skopje before moving on to other Macedonian locations.

How nice of Turks, at least they are not scared to admit that it is a statue of Alexander.

wonder what would happen if the turks put up a statue of iskander (alexander).would that upset greece.Alexander was a macedonian & he was a world leader. What would happen if quite a number of countries decided to put up alexander statues. That would reveal what a sham the greeks are doing crying over nothing.

Very nice indeed, and a new statue at that! Seems they don't give a stuff what the Greeks think!

Makedonche as has been said many times, the Turks know the history of the Balkans and the Macedonians, if they are not bothered by Greece's histerical rants we shouldnt either.

Very true, but sometimes it's difficult to be tolerant of fools!

It truly does look good even with the manipulated shields, if only they are corrected and a plaque stating that this indeed is Alexander of Macedonia.

Marusic’s Balkan Insight piece is yet another bit of rubbish

Every European Capital that prides itself is doing what the Macedonians are starting to realise (if only Alexander was not a thorn on a Horse)

And that anonymous Israeli Women was only partially quoted god I hate this rag
