If you think about it, I say there is a huge sub-conscious sentiment that compels people to say "Republic of Macedonia". "Macedonia" comes in at no. 2 and "Macedonian Republic" comes in last.

I agree, but while I can't speak for everybody here, I don't believe most people at the MTO use Republic of Macedonia more frequently than Macedonia, unless it is in context.

Thank you Zimbabwe for recognizing Macedonia's constitutional name, lets hope we hear more and more of these types of stories.

So that brings us around about 12 African countries that have recognized Macedonia, 2 African countries that have not and the rest are undecided.

That "sub-conscious" sentiment has been (and is being) fed rather overtly and directly from the top down and the parroting is unavoidable for those less politically astute amongst our ranks and in the general Macedonian populace and in contradiction of the will of the Macedonians expressed via the 1991 REFERENDUM for INDEPENDENCE.

If macedonia is recognized throughout the world under it's constitutional name all the more to discontinue the name negotiations.

Zimbabwe is a UN country, they have a vote in the UN and the whole name battle is in the UN which means we need as many UN countries as possible recognizing us.

Like I said previously when it comes to a vote in the un everyone gets a vote including Zimbabwe so if the un is going to recognise Macedonia via a vote then every vote is important.

The ramifications of recognizing RoM are huge for all the other parts of Macedonia so every new country to recognise RoM is a reason for all of us to celebrate…once for the recognition and once for that it is another nail in the coffin for Greece so be sure to have 2 drinks.

Guys I can understand why you say it is better to use just Macedonia but I wonder is it a case of a bit like myself where I think of the whole of Macedonia when using the word Macedonia in writing and use RoM to distinguish that I am referring to only to the Vardar part. I suspect the media and government are doing it for a similar reason with the added point of not appearing to have aspirations to Egej Macedonia as per the amendment in the constitution. Maybe you are right and maybe we should be pushing for a greater use of the name Macedonia on its own but even on this site I have seen comments like…don’t think RoM is the only Macedonia…from one member to another.

Good point, i concur with the subliminal meaning of ROM, I tend to think it implies Vardarska strana, while the use of Macedonia refers to all of Macedonia!

To avoid this trap requires a level of (MACEDONIAN CONSCIOUSNESS) political consciousness and discipline that, in my observation and analysis, seems to be generally lacking in most Macedonians on MTO and other fora.

I agree. The 'republic of' prefix should be used only in context and when required. I don't agree that most Macedonians here are ignorant of that.
