Fathers to get 2 months maternity leave in Macedonia

As of next year, fathers in Macedonia will be entitled to paid maternity leave to care for their newly born children.

Oh excellent, sounds like we want to work as hard as Greece now.

I would rather hear the conversation with the guy in the background of the video starting from 00:30 seconds.

What a great idea, get paid to stay home, I'll have to move over there and have a new baby every two months and never work again!
I wonder if the bloke in the background was successful in his ambitions!

        This is a good idea.

Paid maternity leave encourages population growth and is actually the fair thing to do.

A mans leave can't be maternity. The woman gets the maternity leave which is longer.
The man gets 2 months should be called paternity.I think that is a good idea if the country can afford it.The woman needs the most help around the home when its in the first couple of weeks out of the hospital. In answer to Julies question well the man can take some female hormones & start growing breasts but i think it might take more than 2 months to grow them Just kidding ha ha.

Lol. Paternity leave is the correct term. Its a giggle reading maternity leave for men.

People get leave to look after their dogs and cats in Australia why shouldnt fathers get paid parental leave? The Fathers have to look after children too, this law exists in the EU. British Premier David Cameron even used it when his daughter was born a few months ago.

Good point - "if the country can afford it", with close to 30% unemployment and a developing economy in it's early stages I think it's premature to start spending money before it is even earnt. While I agree it is important for men to have paternity leave it needs to be affordable and sustainable!

Well, this paternity leave would obviously only apply to those who are employed.

Secondly, it will most likely be taken up by the only employer (and the largest employer in the country) who will likely enforce this; The Government & state administration. Private employers will find ways to avoid this.

The overwhelming majority of those employees are Macedonians.

Please remember that the Macedonian Constitutional Court ruled against the Government's baby-bonus incentive program, this is one of the roundabout ways of achieving similar results.

The Macedonians in RoM can be summed up by whatever is the best the world is doing that’s what they want.

It is not the question is it a good thing for the husband to help his wife in the early part after having a baby. Ofcourse the answer is yes and so is having a Mercedes car because they have a proven greater safety features more then other cars but not everyone goes out and gets one especially when they are starting out in life. Macedonia is an old country but in modern economics terms it like a young person starting out in life with many needs but few resources and as such needs to prioritise those resources to maximise the benefits. You don’t go on a huge summer holiday when you just started saving for the deposit for a house. They never cease to make me laugh.

Does the wife or husband have parents who might be able to lend a hand. By listening to these people you could be mistaken to think people only started having kids a couple of weeks ago and now there is this new thing that urgently needs addressing.

Rogi, It will be a nation wide law, it was due to enfoced this year but it was delayed due to the recession. They said the same about the public holidays were we heard reports the private sector would ignore them but nobody did and if people worked on public holidays they must be payed double time.

I think this law is actually an EU reform, i dont see the private sector making any problems over this.

Were you in support of Macedonia's "baby bonus" program? If you were, should be in support of this.

Aren't the ethnic Albanians representing about a quarter of the government workforce? If so, then it is not the same as the previously proposed initiative.

I doubt I would have been in favour of the baby bonus in RoM because I m not even in favour of it here in Australia.

I don’t believe paying people for what they have been doing for thousands of years naturally. You’d think people just now started having families. How did their parents have them.

Besides its their family not mine. I don’t see why my taxes should go towards forwarding someone else’s family. I’m sure you don’t stop off at your neighbours’ house every payday and leave 100 dollars or so. You would think it was strange to do so.
