The excuses that your group has made are not acceptable and senseless. If you are not allowed back into the ranks of Vinozhito, why do you still persist? If you want to limit your activities as a cultural organisation and look no further beyond the horizon, then you can continue waiting for your 'miracle'.

Yes, assert yourselves and build your influence, then Vinozhito will have no choice but to listen, and if both of you are smart, in addition to any other Macedonian groups that are formed in the meantime, then you can unite for a common cause. At the moment, you are all doing your best to limit Macedonian activism in Greece through the one channel, like Vinozhito are the be-all and end-all of the Macedonian Cause in your area.

What efforts have you or your group made to establish links or contact with external groups from the Macedonian Diaspora? I am positive I have asked you this question in the past, perhaps your answer didn't make an impression.

I guess I am the only one from my group who keeps some contact with the Diaspora. Some others have contacts only in the Republic of Macedonia, as they speak macedonian (but no english). From my part, I cannot speak macedonian, so my contacts are very limited, there.

And what fruition have your Diaspora links come to? Do you have a plan, or are you working on one, that extends beyond the cultural organisation? Do you have such aspirations?

Vodenka, Whatever happened to the radio program in Lerin? Macedonians in Egejska need to keep eachother informed via radio, television. All our minorities in Stari Kraj have their own language programs, even the Vlachs.

Our magazine Zadruga is published by sponsors from the Diaspora. For the teacher for the language classes we were been helped by some friend in Macedonia. Our financial resources at this moment do not allow us to do more. We will probably organize some excursion to Macedonia and some macedonian evening dancing event, till Christmas. To extend our activity to a political organization needs lots of money, we do not have.

Prolet, before we get to have a radio station, the law about media has to be changed in Greece. Stari Kraj is a modern european democratic country, not a third world's country like greece.

Is your magazine published online also, which would also give it more exposure? How did Vinozhito obtain the funds to initiate a political movement?

Where will it take place, vodenka, this event? I might be in the neighbourhood before Christmas, so I could join. BTW, I don't know how you manage, but you need to be more active with advertising such events.

Yes, it is on line and posted in some macedonian blogs in greece, too.

As about Vinozhito, I think it gets most of its financial help from the Diaspora.

In Voden, but I do not have exact date, yet. The event will be advertised among Macedonians as we want to keep it a macedonian event and not "little bit of everything" as most of other macedonian cultural associations are doing with the sole aim to get as many partecipants as possible, even non Macedonians, so that they end up to have macedonian music with singing, after midnight, when most of the people are gone... Our event will be macedonian from the first minute to the end!

John, here is something about your folks in Voden from the 1930's:

OPPRESION OF THE MACEDONIANS IN VODEN, June 6, 1934

Voden. - Here, in Voden, and in our whole district, in the heart of Macedonia, here where we Macedonians do not know any other language but our own Macedonian, various agents of the Greek capitalism force us to speak Greek. Consequently, they threaten us constantly with expulsion to Bulgaria, they call us Komitajis, expropriate our fields which we have drenched with our sweat just to produce a piece of bread. In addition, they deprive us of the freedom which our fathers won after many years of struggle in which they gave thair lives for the liberation of Macedonia. We live under the yoke of Greek capitalism, literally as slaves.

In the elementary schools, the young children who speak their own language are beaten every day. Particularly here in Voden, the henchman and fascist Georgiadis beats the children if they speak their Macedonian tongue, if they wrap their notebooks in red paper, or if they use red ink or red colors.

Second Lieutenant Tagaris is another "great hero," anti- communist and persecutor of Macedonians. In his slandering of communism in our district, he does not even shrink from such nonsense as saying that we are not communists but rather Bulgarian Komitajis etc.

Not long ago, a number of Macedonian comrades were arrested, and Tagaris threatened them with grave consequences if they did not stop agitating among the youth. A number of other comrades, Prosfigis, were arrested together with them. They were repeatedly told that the local people were Bulgarian and Komitajis.

To these agents of capitalism the Macedonians keep repeating that they cannot be intimidated by anything and that they will continue their struggle until they attain their full liberation.

                            Voden, June 6, 1934 A Macedonian correspondent; [Rizospastis, ar.89 (7026), 10.VI.1934, p.3]

Indeed, SoM. One should always remember the truth. Excellent post about Voden. The only melancholy that I felt while reading this, was the last sentence: "To these agents of capitalism the Macedonians keep repeating that they cannot be intimidated by anything and that they will continue their struggle until they attain their full liberation." It seems like an old forgotten story nowadays. I wish there were more like them that would go for such a struggle today.

Vodenka it appears the shackles are on tight for our Macedonian people living in Egej. From what i have been reading we don;t stand a chance to cast our voices in the elections but maybe a coalition with another party if there is one like a turkish one join with a macedonian to continue our voice in egej. What is your party named?
