"Switzerland of the balkans" - man i hate that saying. It could mean anything, good or bad, but unfortunately it means the death of macedonia.

Guys we are unfortunately already the "switzerland of the balkans" or we are becoming that, however we are not becoming this because of our choosing.....

We are pretty much a "multi-ethnic" and "multi-language" country thanks to the shiptars and the "ohrid agreement".....

In this regard, we are truly the Switzerland of the Balkans now.

The difference being:

- It was imposed on Macedonia through an act of war funded and administered by the USA and NATO.
- It was not done freely, it was under duress.
- It does not have any of the wealth of Switzerland and cannot buy a seat at any important tables.
- There are no hot French speaking girls in Macedonia.

There was a Canadian Embassy in Skopje but they closed it down, too expensive to maintain it was part of a wide range of embassies that were closed down about 5 years ago. I think they use the US embassy for its citizens just like Belgium uses the Dutch embassy for visas and so forth.

If Reeker likes our country so much then why would he want to change our name?

If we all lose the defence and the protection of our State then we lose our political identity.

What is to stop Greece and Bulgaria claiming territory of the Macedonian Republic or even claiming the people, as theirs, once that happens?

They will be saying that Slavs are really 'Slavisized Greeks', Slavs are really 'Bulgarians' - remeber that propoganda a century ago?

If they extinguish our political identity - we are finished.

Philip T. Reeker was nominated by the President on March 18, 2008, to be U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia. He was confirmed by the Senate on August 1 and sworn in on September 10. From June 2007 until June 2008, he served at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq as the Counselor to the Ambassador for Public Affairs. He was the Deputy Chief of Mission in Budapest, Hungary from 2004 to 2007.

Mr. Reeker was Deputy Spokesman and Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Public Affairs from 2000-2003. He was recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy in 2003, and traveled domestically and internationally as the "Spokesman at Large" for the State Department, giving talks and interviews on U.S. Foreign Policy and diplomacy from 2003 to 2004.

A Career Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Reeker previously served as Director of Press Relations at the State Department from 1999 to 2000; Assistant Information Officer in Budapest, Hungary from 1993 to 1996; and as the Public Affairs Officer in Skopje, Macedonia from 1997 to 1999. He was spokesman for Ambassador Christopher R. Hill and for the Rambouillet Process (Kosovo peace talks). Born in Pennsylvania, Mr. Reeker grew up in several parts of the United States, and in Australia. He received a BA from Yale in 1986, and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of International Management in 1991. He is married to Solveig Johnson Reeker, who also is a member of the Foreign Service.

Амбасадорот на САД Филип Рикер по денешната средба со лидерот на ДУИ Али Ахмети искажа поддршка за визијата на партијата за Македонија и изјави оти сега е време да се изнајде волја и пат за видлива динамика во спорот со името со Грција.

- Потребни се напори од сите страни. Како што посочи секретарот за Европа при посетата на Македонија минатата недела Фил Гордон, во Грција има релативно нов премиер кој сака сериозно да се продолжи напред. Слични ставови искажа и македонскиот премиер Никола Груевски при средбата со Гордон. Сега е можноста да се изнајде волја и пат за видлива промена во динамиката на овој план, смета Рикер.

I did not know he said that? when did you hear him say that's what he wants? Or was that just what the media said? One report said he was the first official to use the name in Washington, and the Greeks oppose him. with google I can't find him saying "change the name". That kind of assumption is how we lose friends.

But we are missing the point: U.S. starting pushing solve the name dispute (that does not mean change the constitutional name. "solve" does not = "change") about NATO. If we forget about NATO and drop the whole issue. Like Risto says, why do we want NATO after what they did. Does that mean we have to stay FYROM at UN or wherever? Why do we need to compromise for this?

Ali Ahmeti is a proven terrorist who was black listed by the US Government, if they fully support his views on our country then god help us. The guy is a thug and an animal, even the average Albanian can tell you about him and his intentions.

I wonder what Ambassador Reeker thought when he said his (Ahmeti's) "Vision" we all know what Ali Ahmeti's vision is and thats to see a Greater Albania. Every man and his dog knows that we dont need to tell him.

SOM, The US Ambassador to Macedonia Gospodin Phillip Reeker has said that USA is our best friend and then he comes out with this comment. What a bloody disgrace, imagine how the US Government would react if our delegation went to meet up with Al Queda and gave a similar comment regarding their "Vision"
