Macedonia to take part in 2010 Shanghai Expo

Macedonia is to showcase its culture and economic development at the upcoming 2010 Shanghai Expo, news reaching here from Skopje said on Monday.

Macedonia is going to take part in the event held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31 under the slogan of "Macedonia Timeless", MIA, Macedonia's official news agency, said.

"Our objective is to promote the country in a dignified and modest way," said Macedonia's Deputy Economy Minister Metodij Hadzi Vaskov, who is also the country's national coordinator for the Expo.

Presentations in Macedonia's pavilion will focus on Macedonia's traditional food and crafts, rural development and modern economy, natural resources and cultural diversities.

Macedonia will stage its national day for the event on Sept. 8.

Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski, who is on a visit to China, is scheduled to open the Macedonian pavilion.

A bit about the expo:

Expo 2010 held in the city of Shanghai, China from May 1 to October 31, 2010 and is a scheduled World Expo in the tradition of international fairs and expositions. The theme of the exposition will be "Better City – Better Life" and signifies Shanghai's new status in the 21st century as a premier global economic and cultural center. It is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs. The expo Logo features the Chinese character 世 ('world', Chinese "shì") modified to represent three people together with the 2010 date. It is also the largest World's Fair site ever at 5.28 square km.

More than 190 countries and more than 50 international organizations have registered to participate in the Shanghai World Expo, the largest ever. China expects to receive almost 100 foreign leaders and millions of people from across the world to come and visit the World Expo. More than 70-100 million visitors are expected to visit the expo, the largest in history.
