You are right in saying there are provocateurs on the other sites trying to exploit the stereotypes of Macedonians in RoM and the diaspora but the funny thing about stereotypes is they are based in an element of truth.

No one wants to live a lower standard of living but most do due to their circumstances. In the west it is no different. Some people enjoy a very height standard of living. The things people do in a country gives you an idea where their standard of living is. In the western media lifestyle is portrayed. Doesnt everyone go skiing in winter and a sunny place overseas in summer with many weekends away in-between for a romantic getaway. They go to restaurants at least 3 times a week and doing it at the drop of the hat because they meat someone is no question at all. Alfresco dinning at a caf for lunch and stopping off at bars in the evening after work with friends or that person you meat today is a daily occurrence. They catch cabs most of the time at the drop of a hat because parking is difficult and when they drive its always some expensive car. A desirable lifestyle to many would you agree. How many people do you know who do this all the time.

The same media plays in Macedonia leaving a could it be impression. Then as the saying goes vujce od amerika goes back to Macedonia with his pockets stuffed with money every time people see him. He boasts of his lavish house and expensive care for himself and one for his wife and possibly the kids. Ofcourse the kids bought it themselves because they are such a success in their chosen career. He tells them of evenings at resuraronts and Macedonian dances where they have kebapi all night as meze. They dont go to the aussie or usa ect clubs after all why would you with their horrible music. Couple this information with the could it be lifestyle portrayed in western media and it all starts to sound real and believable. At this point they start to compare it to their own lives.

Sure they go out and maybe vacation in Ohrid but nothing even close to what you have described. The penny drops. If you have so much in excess couldnt you send some money their way. You havent or not as much compared to the excesses you have described so you must be a stingy prick.

Have they asked themselves why should you send any money let alone if its enough. I watch a documentary once on lotteries how they work and how the were developed and social impact they have had. It was the last part that was most interesting how kidnappings have occurred or how thousands of letters have been sent to lottery winners about the writers plight and seeking assistance. Lottery winners names have since been kept unannounced but usually close family friends and colleagues find out. The doco went on to describe what they called the sense of entitlement the im your brother ect or best friends or colleagues who are semi friends as you might have an annual outing from work or have drinks with once a week or so after work and how the winners win somehow becomes a kind of collective win and each of these people are waiting for their share and what they thought was appropriate.

Add to all of this the im such a success now even though we were once much the same the inference and you are now not the same and by inference a looser you have the enticement the sense of entitlement and a put down all rolled into one.

The loaded resentment is waiting to spring. If they discover the cracks in the story you have the comeback stereotype. You go to work before sunrise and leave work after sunset and you are lucky to see light on your lunch break if you go out to pay some bills or through distant windows like a caged prisoner. Your house car and probably this holiday to Macedonia are on your mortgage and you go out once or twice a week and then only on weekends. Your lack of socialising is evident in you wooden stance and your inability to communicate adequately like kids in Macedonia. Never mind your unaccustomed to their social norms or kissed on the cheek by the 200th stranger who is supposed to be your relative and your low vocabulary in Macedonians does not allow you to express yourself in anything but the simplest terms.

You are told that people in Macedonia do not have as much yet everyone has an up-to-date mobile including the older generation and even then you see people of the grandparent age with mobiles even though their homophones are not working because the bill hasnt been paid. You see adds to travel to Turkey Greece and Spain and even Phuket or Cuba. You find out even your relatives have been to some of these places frequently. You see the photos of the school excursion to France and the end of high school party they threw and the umpteen end of high school parties they attended. The cafes are their second home and their car is a relatively new Peugeot 206. Even in smaller towns like Prilep you go to centar and you see nice to expensive cars parked. At someones home they tell you the taxi driver will deliver the pizza but you will hear the endless whinge about bills and how hard it is to make it through the month with such precision that even though its coming from different peoples mouths its like they all learnt it from the same script with the not so subtle hint that someone in the neighbours has it easier because they have a relative overseas who sends them a few dollars every month to the outright hows about you leave me your watch or buy me a computer which would not only be so handy but we could even video chat.

I dont think the differences in feelings will change anytime soon but what the diaspora need to do via the campaigns is to remind them that our whole collective identity and the freedoms countless generations have struggled for is at stake. I can just imagine if Macedonia was to change her name the comiti standing in the clouds looking down and thinking we tried to hold it together with a gun and our blood and you gave it all away with a pen. Da ve pluknam.

Regardless of what we might think of the Macedonians in RoM or they of us we all need to keep reminding our selves and each other it is our collective identity at stake and certain peril for the Macedonians in the occupied parts. There will never be a Macedonia again except like looking at it through a glass window as our neighbours fart in it. We cannot let this happen.

Posting to many of Macedonian media has not availed much as it is mostly owned by contra interests but this should not deter people from posting or writing letters to the editor in all publications including those outside of Macedonia. They cannot ignore us forever. There is too much at stake.

Actually Bratot, this is the crux of the issue.
If it wasn't, then the "Diaspora" would not have even been mentioned in the advertisements. This initiative is specifically about Macedonians from the Diaspora and their wishes for Macedonia. If the Diaspora's wishes are to be understood and subsequently rejected, then there will be consequences. As an example, I was working on a business proposal when Tashkovic was the minister for foreign investment. At the time, Macedonia was still toying with a name change (as it still is now) and I expressed my disappointment to him and through him to Gruevski. I found it hard to maintain motivation to help a country that cannot even regard its own identity as sacred.

4th or 5th generation Italians in New York can still point to Italy on a map and visit Italy. If future generations of Macedonians in the Diaspora do not see a country called Macedonia on the map, there will be negative consequences. Simple as that.

            This is well said SoM

You know what the problem is Jankovska? That the Macedonians in RoM actually believe that every single Macedonian from the Diaspora is how you have described them. You speak as if there are no "fraeri" in RoM and they all come from the Diaspora, is that what you honestly believe? If not, what is the problem? Macedonians from the Diaspora cannot be proud when in Macedonia? They should all keep their mouths shut while in Macedonia? I hate generalisations, I know perfectly well about the people from the Diaspora you are referring to and what sort of idiots they can be, and for that I agree completely, but this is a two-way street, and some Macedonians in RoM need to snap out of their little fantasy world where only they count as Macedonians and the rest of us are mere foreigners. Macedonians live the world over. The hypocrisy never ends, like we are to blame that our parents left as economic migrants when they did, like some of these Macedonians in RoM that make these very comments wouldn't sellout Macedonia in a heartbeat. Yet here we are, the 'foreigners' that left, still fighting for the Macedonian Cause abroad. By the very definitions that are applied to Macedonians in the Diaspora by those in RoM, we shouldn't even care what happens to Macedonia. But, we do, of course we do, because we are supposed to be in this together, as Macedonians, collectively.
Until recently the Macedonians 'over the border' (in the Republic of Macedonia), were never face to face with the hostility of the Hellenic Republic, although it can be said that many Macedonians under Greek rule are now living in the Republic of Macedonia. In the diaspora we have been living with the negation of our historical identity since we were kids - at the local take away shops, food stores and restaurants and elsewhere. The trouble is that the Macedonian leadership do not represent what most Macedonians think and feel and want, and most Macedonians do not understand that they are being undermined, and fk over by their own politicians. So my point is this when the Macedonians start to complain about Macedonians in the diaspora, they do not really know what they are saying. They'll always attack their own first. It doesn't change the fact that it is the Macedonian leadership that has our identity on a negotiating table - not us. The Macedonians over there who I have spoken too do not want a name change, and do not like what the government is doing, but believe they have no choice. I can't fault them for that. But I am certain that the leadership do not genuinely represent their desires and grievances. There are too many careerists trying to use our current misfortune and political processes to fast track their own personal goals. When they don't like whats happening, they find someone to blame - why not the diaspora? Its a common thing among Macedonians. We are in it together, but there are forces that have fast tracked our drive toward extinction and there are Macedonians riding it. That has to stop, I don't care why they are.

Pelister, that is a very accurate description of the animosity toward the diaspora from our brothers and sisters. as you have said, the diaspora has faced incredible hardship in regard to acceptance for decades in Australia, I don't know if this has occurred in other countries. In my viewpoint, the governments in RoM are effectively acerbating this and all we can do is have patience and faith that the Macedonians will see this is being perpetuated from their leaders to promote disunity and fear amongst them, for the leadeers own selfish self serving manipulative interests.

Now the Albanians are using the vassal arguments against the Macedonian diaspora involvement:

Same old garbage from another extremist Albanian who couldn't care less about Macedonia, yet he still has the audacity to call the country "nashata drzhava", the treacherous scum.

                      So much for the adds.

Macedonian Government doesn't consider possibility for abandoning name negotiations with Greece

Skopje, 5 August 2010 (MIA) - Macedonian Government will not break off the negotiations with Greece on settling the name row, as suggested by the diaspora, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told reporters on Thursday.

However, the Government has been very careful in the course of these negotiations, the Prime Minister said.

The Government, Gruevski said, has been drafting a new package of reforms for modernization of the public administration. Candidates for public servants will be a subject of tests that evaluate their capacity, skills, integrity and all other performances, necessary for such employees.

The Government has been also working on and making efforts to wrap up as much as possible of the tasks it is to face after opening of Macedonia's EU accession talks, the Prime Minister said.

                      - We are working on selecting solid individuals for members and chief of the country's team for the accession negotiations, Gruevski said.

Referring to harmonizing the national with the EU legislation, the Prime Minister said that this year the Government had drafted about 60 of the planned 100 laws. The Parliament already endorsed 50 of them, while the reminder would get the green light by the end of this month.

Great attitude. What did you expect them to achieve, an overnight change of policy by the government? They have increased awareness in Macedonia about the true sentiment of the Macedonian Diaspora as a result of the ad campaign, which is something that hadn't been done for a while.

Former UN Mediator tells Macedonia not to change name

Macedonia must not and will not change its name in order to appease Greece - this was a message from the first UN mediator Mr. Robin O'Neil for Ohrid based NTV station as part of a conference entitled "Macedonia, our name, identity and dignity.

Speaking about exclusivity of the name Macedonia, British expert of international law and ambassador, explained that no one exclusively owns the name Macedonia.

According to Mr. O'Neil, if Macedonia succumbs to pressures and changes its name, such events will only give more firepower to Greece until it reaches its final goal - Macedonia to vanish from the map.

O'Neil advised the Macedonian Government to work hard on admission to EU and NATO adding: 'Macedonia already has two names, it doesn't need a third. As time passes, the temporary name will lose its importance and relevance, because it is a temporary name."

Mr. O'Neil believes Greece has broken the rules of the 1995 Agreement because it is blocking the country from accessions to EU and NATO, even though it is clearly stated in the Agreement (UN Resolution 817) it can not do so.

The former UN mediator stressed repeatedly at the conference: "If Macedonia accepts any sort of change, whether it is the silly North, Above, Top, Vardar, Upper... it shall commit a national suicide.

Greek professor Aristotelis Camparis disagrees. The intellectual from the Athens University of Pirea believes there is a rare opportunity for the two countries to solve the name dispute until November in which borth parties will win. He believes there are friendly Governments in both countries that could work things out.

Famous professor and intellectual at Ss Cyril and Methodius Mr. Ljubomir Cuculovski disagrees with his colleague from Athens. Cuculovski believes Greece is just a poodle in the whole name dispute game and is being used by a third powerful nation whose agenda is to remove Macedonia from the map, a sentiment shared by many Macedonian professors.

I'm not sure which country he is referring to, but, other than Greece and maybe Bulgaria, who would care enough about what Macedonia calls itself to want it wiped off the map?
