UN to Macedonia: Sorry, We'll Correct the Unauthorized Change ...
Monday, 15 November 2010
With regards to the unauthorized intervention in the United Nations form over Macedonia's ID as a member-state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday it has undertaken all diplomatic activities and intervened with urgency to the Cabinet of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as well as the UN Secretariat.
"Macedonia's Mission has been assured that the United Nations remain firm on the principles and observance of the established practice regarding the use and naming of the Macedonian language, stressing that the correction of such unauthorized technical intervention would follow as soon as possible", reads the press release.
MoFA underscores Macedonia's resolve to fight for the defense and promotion of Macedonian national identity as equal part of European and world cultures, whereas this subversive act within the UN could serve as an additional incentive for louder international promotion of Macedonian national and cultural traits.
As MINA had explained last night, the involvement of a Greek diplomat in this incident, would expectedly lead to something illegal, unauthorized or both as in this case. It's rather worrying that an institution such as the UN seem so unorganized, where anyone, for any reason can alter information.
It certainly would be interesting to know who received the handout for this 'change', and even more interesting, how does Greece continue to have money for handouts which at the end are always meaningless and make look Athens rather foolish, as usual.
As of 1:00pm, the UN website has already added "Macedonian" to the empty language graph.
Good points.
