After seeing the extended trailer I couldn't understand what the practical problem of the old man is. Is he really stateless? If so, why? (I can think of three countries of which he might be a citizen).
If he has lived all his life in Poland (an EU country) can't he live in Greece (preferably in his village and family house), at least as an EU citizen?
(Questions are for anyone who saw the film)

He does not want to go back as a Polish citizen. He wants to return as a citizen of Greece, with all the rights that entails. Moreover, he wants to return with his Macedonian name, not a Greek name. The Greek authorities refuse to permit this, which of course is a form of discrimination also known as cultural racism.
