Australian position on Macedonia

Unless they officially recognize Macedonia under our rightful name i will not vote for the Liberals, who was it that referred to Macedonia as Macedonia from the Liberal party? some low ranking government official?
That is nothing to be happy about.

The big parties are not dumb, they refuse to recognize Macedonia then make a deal with either he Greens or the Nationals to obtain the Macedonian votes, last elections if you voted Greens, their votes basically went to Labor and the votes of the Nationals went to the liberals respectively.

To add to the above, some idiots from the Macedonian radio and other so called Macedonian community leaders urged Macedonians to vote Greens or nationals, pick one or the other, that is where our weakness is, some uneducated twats in our community who bring the rest of us down.

A solid Australian Macedonian Organization needs to approach the Liberal party (or preferred party), understanding the benefits by recognizing the Republic of Macedonia, could mean a balance in power, but I agree we need a public commitment by the Liberals or the preferred ONE party, the Australian Macedonian community can be lobbied to vote for the preferred ONE party.

The liberals don’t have a good history with Republic of Macedonia, Tony Abbott may have a different view, we won’t know until we approach him.

Sure there will be a kick back from the Greks! By way of explaining 125 countries have recognized the Republic of Macedonia including the Uk.....

The Greens , as wonderful as they are and all, will never hold the balance in power in Australia, so what is your point?

Julie, why didnt you just direct your preferences away from Labor? If you putt Labor last then they will not receive your preferences (it will go to liberals first). I think that the preferential system is great , We are fortunate to have a much fairer system then the British for example.

Even if the Liberals have said Macedonia, without the FYRO bit, I am not voting for them. Frankly, the Liberals are controlled by (Rich) Conservative Anglo-Saxons who have little sympathy with people from non-English speaking backgrounds. This is evident by the typical party membership and the typical Liberal voter. The labor party however has supported working class people and migrants, thats why Macedonians have traditionally voted for them. Let's face it, all of the Macedonians in Australia originate from humble working class backgrounds, so it is only fitting that we have supported the Labor party. However in recent years Labor has become more and more like the liberal party, which personally I am not happy with. They have gone to far from their roots, from the true meaning of a 'labor' party. I am personally disgusted at Rudd's dismissal. Unless Labor does something miraculous between now and the next election I will probably be voting Greens, however I will preference Labor. I feel that the Greens have a chance to keep the other parties accountable, hopefully they will be more successful then the Democrats were 15 years ago. Thats my honest opinion.

Labor should take note, that the Greens actually did very well last election , and Rann only came back into power with those votes from the Greens

Antonio Krsticevic, representative of ruling party at Western Australia Assembly and chairman of the WA-Macedonia Parliamentary Committee for Friendship and Cooperation, arrived Sunday in Macedonia for a two-day visit.

Krsticevic is scheduled to meet Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski, Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki ans his host - the chairman of Macedonia-WA Committee for Friendship and Cooperation, Ilija Dimoski, Macedonian Honorary Consul in Perth Zoran Koseski said in a press release.

Dimovski and his guest will share opinions on new possibilities for boosting the relations between Macedonia and Australia.

A scientific delegation, led by the Director of WA University Centre for Water Research Jorg Imberger will pay a six-day visit to Macedonia for meetings with Deputy Environment Minister Sonja Leptikova, representatives of Ohrid-based Hydrometeorological Bureau, universities 'Ss Cyril and Methodius' and 'Goce Delchev'. The talks will address possibilities for boosting the cooperation in several projects related to global warming.

Bratot, I've never heard of him how do you know he is not a Macedonian who had to change their name during the Yugoslav Era? Western Australia is like 5000km away from me, its like a different country all together.

the misnamed liberals are not a free enterprsie party they are a conservative corporate party and only look after the big end of town always have and always will, sadly too many small business people fall for their hype and bullshit.

Banned Books in Australia

Ico Najdovski's book Macedonians in Victoria has been taken off the shelves by the Australian Government because according to the Greeks it spreads hatred. Im not sure how they managed to pull this one off, its a bloody disgrace.

Do the Greeks think they can dictate to the Australian Government what they like?

That sounds conceivable.
Surely the reverse can also apply and books funded by the Victorian Government which espouse any number of modern Greek myths should be treated in a similar fashion. Worthy of a closer look in my opinion.
