The Australlian accent throws me off bigtime though

i found acropolis now to be one of the funniest shows on tv during its time in the 80s, but now they are flogging a dead horse and its become stale and oppourtunistic to parody ones culture ll the time.

I don't remember any of the Greeks calling themselves Macedonians in that show if that helps you.
After all, it was before the greek mind meld of the 1990's.

There was no need to clarify what type of Greeks they were in the 80's.

Oh, I see you've forgotten. Back then they used to say Macedonians do not exist.

"If you can't beat them, be them" appears to be the Greek mantra.
