Its ironic yet sad that much of our folklore (from 18th 19th and 20th century) is entrenched with every thing from King Philip, Alexander, King Marko, Delchev etc, yet when we use the names of such people today we are branded ultra-nationalist, usurpas of history or somehow "upsetting" multicultural Greece and even Bulgaria for simply celebrating what our forefathers considered a predominant part of our culture and history.

Well I say they can jump on the merry-go-round all they want, the fact is our entrenched history, folklore and people still (and will) remain, even after considering all that has happened in the past 150 years and more in suppressing it.

1896

Paul Argyriades (A French socialist born in Macedonia): ......And if an autonomous Macedonian administration were to be introduced in this land in ten years only, it would be the earthly paradise of the world...The small states - the Greek, Bulgaria and Serbian ones -argue for the acquisition of Macedonia, using all kinds of proofs - chauvinist and historical - invented in support of their interests, while no one seems to realize that if the historical truth were to be respected, Macedonia should rather have the right to possess all those countries, which would like to devour it, since once it governed and ruled them itself....The Macedonians do not want the kind of caresses which may strangle them. They want to remain Macedonians without any other epithet, guarding for themselves their beautiful Macedonia... Almanach de la Question Sociale. Illustre'. (Paris), Pour 1896, pp. 240-244.
Let us take a moment to ponder this.
Here is a man with the clarity of mind that still reverberates today with relevance.

1878 - Macedonian Rebel Committee

Quote:
With the wish to cast off the Turkish bondage from our fatherland, each and every one of us stands ready to sacrifice whatever is necessary. We have rebelled as champions of freedom. By shedding our blood throughout the fields and forests of Macedonia, we serve as the Macedonian army of Alexander the Great once did. We fight for freedom and our motto is: "Freedom or Death!"
Quote:
The aim of the Macedonian uprising is no secret. It is for the liberation of Macedonia, the country of the glorious enlighteners and educators, St. Cyril and Methodius, the country that has suffered centuries of Turkish enslavement. So, among us there is no place for those who fight for personal gain, there is place only for those who fight for freedom.

Leaders of the Macedonian rebels at Kresna in 1878 were Gorgi Pulevski, Pop Berovski, Dedo Ilija Maleshevski, these men are heroes and should be honoured with the highest regard in Macedonia.

Here is another quote from Pulevski, taken from his song 'Macedonian Contribution';

Macedonian brotherhood of the Orthodox faith. Let us all unite. Heroic we fight. As our ancestors, under Emperor Alexander.

Collection of

Razlovci and Kreshna
docs.

I find this very interesting:

Quote:
Indication why the Uprising (The Razlovci Uprising at first place, 1876) failed is given in the “Macedonian Knot“, written by Hans Lothar Steppan on page 40: “The Macedonian Leader of this Uprising (Razlovec), Dimitar Pop Georgiev was not granted an audience in St. Petersburg, when he was there to ask for an Russian assistance. ”

Whenever there names are mentioned, especially Dedo Ilija (Maleshev), I think about the Macedonian fighters, who were too poor to earn a living, or were wanted by the Turks in Macedonia, so they left for other coutnries to fight the Turks.
