Greece until 1978 didn't know or care for the sun symbol of which macedonia was allready using.After they discovered the Star of vergina (greek renamed)version the star of kutlesh is macedonian.But who said it's just a star it is actually our sun symbol.This sun symbol is scattered all over the republic of macedonia.So the exvlusivity that greece claims is actually false.Greece doesn't even know that the 16 rays represent the various 16 macedonian tribes.So the flag concoction is more of greece trying to stop macedonia to use its own flag.It is not really greece's flag as it has different colors.Also macedonia can fly any flag it wants on it's territory.I think personally we should tell greece to jump because they allready have a flag of their own which they stole from the east india company.

Oh I am sure this is one those myths like the syllables for something the Greeks say about their flag.

Frank here's a definition of the word "Sun" seeing as I am assuming you mean that the "Star of Kutlesh" should be referred to as "Sun of Kutlesh";

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sun

sun (sn)
n.
1. often Sun A star that is the basis of the solar system and that sustains life on Earth, being the source of heat and light. It has a mean distance from Earth of about 150 million kilometers (93 million miles) a diameter of approximately 1,390,000 kilometers (864,000 miles) and a mass about 330,000 times that of Earth.
2. A star that is the center of a planetary system.

Sun or Star? How about both?

I think someone like Aleksandrov or Indigen would know much more, but it had strong grassroots support across the diaspora, particularly in Australia. If memory serves correct, I think there was some national agreement of Macedonian organisations across Australia in the 80's to use the sonce. Further, I'm aware of many patriotic activists in Macedonia who had accepted the sonce as a national symbol since the late 70's.

It is not just a star or a sun. It is the Sun. The Earth's Sun

This is where it starts to get a bit messy, it might not be a symbol of OUR Sun, the earliest astronomical depictions of stars and sun symbolism in ancient cultures are actually the earliest observations of the planet Venus/Ishtar by civilizations in Mesopotamia...the symbol of Ishtar is an 8 pointed star...

if my memory serves me correctly the original symbol used by the Ancient Macedonians was an 8 pointed/ray star...the additional 8 rays were added during Alexander the Greats reign as a symbol of the 'brilliance' of his reign and empire...

Regardless of the absolute facts on this matter there is absolutely no doubt about the widespread use of both 8 and 16 ray sun symbols throughout Macedonia, even the much maligned current state flag has obvious roots in this tradition and a relationship to sun/star symbolism of the Macedonian people through the centuries...
