For me, My dad was a bad alcoholic, and when I was younger a lot of negative stuff I do not want to delve into with family problems, I am sure you can figure it out... all of it came from Alcohol, so I feel it is much more destructive.

With Tobacco, causes many bad diseases from what I have seen,

But Marijuana, has side effects, but relax's people, and actually can seen as beneficial.

That is just my outlook on this, not saying I am right or wrong.

it could get rid of the criminal element if they legalize it.

Personally, I don't have a strong opinion either way on this issue, but I wouldn't go as far as calling a marijuana smoker a 'junkie', which is a term usually reserved for users of heavy drugs.

I have it on good authority that the stem from a cannabis plant can be used to produce some high quality clarinet reeds

I didn't mean it that way,I used "junkie" in the context of "addict".
People with different addictions (drugs,tobacco,alcohol...) are addicts, even those extreme sports lovers are called "adrenaline junkies".
That's what I meant."Pot heads" would be an adequate term too,I didn't think of it then.

I will let you guys know if society falls apart or not. In Massachusetts they are going to have 2 separate bills for legalization of recreational use on the ballot this November. Just like Colorado and Washington.
It has been decriminalized here since 2010. Medical within the last year or so. There have been no rivers of blood.
