![]() Venko Markovski was present at the codification of the Macedonian language in 1944 and argued heavily for the inclusion of ъ (yer) in the alphabet, accusing those that who opposed it as 'Serbinizing Macedonian'. Later in his life he apparently became to refer to himself as Bulgarian despite being born in Macedonia, publishing in Macedonian and assisting on codifying the language. in 1975 he fled Yugoslavia to Bulgaria with the assistance of the Bulgarian secret service as there were concerns there would be an attempted assassination. He lived the rest of his life in Bulgaria which he claimed the Macedonians were a result of a Cominterm conspiracy in the 1930's.
This thread is for those who have infomation on Venko and can clarify these things. |

![]() I was interested about this man too,so i created a thread about him some 4 years ago.
However,it didn't sparkle much interest here (or the members didn't have info about him in order to post) so it past under the radar I'm afraid. But it has included a TV show about him and a historian's survey that might be of help to you. Here's the link to the thread: http://www.macedoniantruth.org/forum...enko+markovski

![]() I would have argued for the inclusion of ъ (yer) in the alphabet. Macedonian is not as phonetic as many Macedonians seem to suggest. Given that our alphabet seems to follow most of Serbia's conventions it wouldn't be a huge leap to think there was Serb influence on the alphabet and an attempt to distance the alphabet from the one the Macedonians gave to the Bulgars.

![]() He was pretty far to the left, people who are that involved in Socialism/Communism usually don't have strong ties to nations (e.g. Stalin, Tito, etc.). So it isn't really all that surprising that he got up and switched sides at the drop of a hat.

![]() Markovski's falling out with Yugoslavia was likely a result of his own Pro-Soviet sympathies.
