Singing About Goce Delcev in Voden (Edessa)

    Voden, Aegean Macedonia (Edessa, Greece)

Macedonians dancing and singing and celebrating Macedonian patriotic music. Perhaps our Greek friends can convince us that this is just an example of "fYRoM" invaders, or of Greeks singing in their "local" dialect, or just an an example of an insignificant "Slav" minority.

Keep it up Aegean brothers and sisters.

This is the annual dance of the cultural club "Arkoudes Metskes" (Bears) of Edessa. I don't know what they represent, but they have a facebook page and you can ask them.

But they're Macedonians. I wanted to know what our Greek friends thought.

What do we have denials of what it represents. It is macedonian music. It is traditional and its not something from fyrom. Its not slav or slavophone its endopi .You know what endopi means original settlers. How well do we know of the greek govt futile attempts to underepresnt macedonian numbers purely for political reasons.THat's not new all sides, serbian ,greek or bulgarian have allways denigrated and understated the macedonian nos.

Hmm... so, someone did exactly that. He mentioned our discussion on their facebook page and asked them to comment on it. Maybe they will.

You really are an annoying turd!.....remember no matter how much you try and polish yourself you're still a turd...and the rest of your kin, who have absolutely nothing to do with real Macedonians!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

If they chose that band, who I have seen many times, then we know what they represent. They represent Macedonia.

And the club is doing what oppressed Macedonians have been doing for centuries with the art of nuance and suggestion in order to avoid further persecution.

My grandparents were not Albanians. Furthermore, until a few decades ago, all types of traditional songs or dances were avoided among small or middle-class urbanized people (like my grandparents) and were considered some sort of lowlife village culture.

Thus I can't think of my grandmothers dancing traditional dances or any dances, as it would be improper for decent girls of their time. Also, while their ancestry comes from various places (Macedonia, Thrace, Asia Minor or Aegean Islands) their music preferences didn't have any traditional color as far as I know and they would prefer the musical styles of their time (for instance, one of them liked operettas very much).

Traditional culture is stronger in villages (one can clearly see this in a marriage) and lately it is reestablished in the cities and among the upper classes. If you attend a marriage of a rich upper-class family they will dance modern AND traditional dances. The latter one would be unacceptable 20-30 years ago as it would make them look like peasants.

Lastly, until the mid-80s all young people in the cities (of middle and upper class) would avoid all types of Greek music and would listen only to foreign music (that was the “modern” thing to do). This also has changed recently.

It's quite probable, but I can't confirm that because I've never heard of them and I'm not from Edessa. For instance, this is a short article by blogger Akritas attacking them and taking your view (if anyone’s interested, it is in Greek, use Google-translate), but I don't agree with that either.

I fear I will acquire cancer of thinking processes if I was to ever visit a site administered by the master of bullshit himself, Akritas.

That would get you a simple answer. Nothing necessarily to do with fact though.

THe man suffers from verbal diarhea as he makes up such bs that Macedonians were hellenes. He has rigged the forum that they only want the hellenes vote.Blind freddy will tell you that the Macedonians were already there when the greeks came to the greek peninsular.Macedonians were not of greek stock. He has chosen to be a moron who refuses to acknowledge that.So what could be said for him and his idiotic and unhistoric beleifs.I wouldn't go on his website if he paid me.Maybe for a million dollars i'll think about it.After I tell him how wrong he is.

n the aspect of Malacca websites that which akritas runs as admin doesn't allow freedom of expression. They ridicule people and call them monkeydonians, fyromians, slavo phones etc and other derogatory terms. They are completely devoid of reality and suffer delusions of grandeur,There is no truth to anything Macedonian they bring up.
