If you look at where many of the important ancient Macedonian places were, in Argos Orestikon (Kostur), Edessa (Voden) and Beroia (Ber) and others, most are places where the concentration of Macedonians even into the modern era have been significant.
For the record, Alexander died prior to the establishment of Salonika (The settlement prior was called Therma), which has always been a cosmopolitan city.In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.
