Zrinski, has that since changed after the Yugo wars? I noticed some players in the Slovenian national team who may have been Serb, Croat or Bosnian, such as the goalkeeper. Can you confirm? What is the minority percentage these days? I have some Serbian friends with family in Slovenia, apparently there is a settlement of them somewhere near the Italian border?

The amount of minorities in Slo at that time was about 12 % of population. In the referendum on possible independence 88% voted yes and 12% no. The numbers of no voters coincide very much with the number of diverse "Yugoslav" minorities

Its cool Slovenia is about the same size as Macedonia and they worked hard to gain their soverenty. We have the tool to become independent but our Gov't is too flaky we are getting pushed around by everyone and we need to push back.

You're right Julie, of all the former republics, Slovenia did it (independence) best.

Absolutely SoM, if the Macedonians could show part of that form of solidarity, RoM would not be in the position it is today.

Slovenia was further away from Serbia, did not share borders with them, and had a smaller amount of minorities than the other republics. Those are some advantages. Nevertheless, the Slovenes showed solidarity and strength, defined their goal and united to achieve it. They embarrassed the Yugoslav army and got their independence. Good on them, their actions deserves nothing less than respect in that regard.

Slovenia would not have lasted a day in a full blown attack by the JNA
    Probably very much right.
One pecualiar thing during the 10 day war was that thousands of JNA soldiers surrendered to the Slovenian army and I think that that shows that those soldiers really didnīt want to fight. I wonder if they later moved on to Croatia and fought there...
