It's interesting to see how some words have the complete opposite meaning from region to region in Macedonia.

The word "sporo" or "sporno" in the republic means slow or sluggish but, in Voden, it seems to mean effortless and easy.

2. спор - as an adjective means slow
3. спори - as a verb means to happen without much effort

The opposite of спорно is напорно - something that requires a lot of effort.

I am thinking of creating similar videos with folk tales narrated in the endangered dialects of Aegean Macedonia. I considered using Cyrillic and Alfavita, but I decided to use Latin transliteration instead.

I think it was great. Quite easy to understand most of it for me. Particularly from a flow perspective (e.g. which syllable is stressed/accented). Perhaps it might have been nice to have the Cyrillic version in standard Macedonian as a means of comparison.

3. спори - as a verb means to happen without much effort (This one was a bit of a surprise...Not one I've ever used in this context, to be perfectly honest)

The opposite of спорно is напорно - something that requires a lot of effort. (напорно - I knew that one too: a common word to describe something that is arduous and difficult. Nice to learn the other meaning of спорно: something easy and effortless)

I was thinking of adding the subtitles in standard Macedonian, but as I started doing that, I realized that the differences are minor (a few local words, and a few phonetic features). So I decided to go with the original dialect. Plus I checked the old words like софалка, нишчалка... and they are included in the standard Macedonian dictionary.

Very interesting, I wish more research was done on topics like this and compiled into a single authority. As the old folks are moving on a lot of things are going to go with them if no one takes the time to write it all down.

I think we should now focus on preserving the spoken dialects in Aegean Macedonia. They are not recognized, but they are not forbidden either. The question is can we, and if so, how can we help?
