Alexander the Great treasures coming to Sydney

The largest-ever exhibition to come from Russia's State Hermitage will go on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney on November 24.

Ancient artefacts from the life and times of Alexander the Great will travel to Sydney from Russia under police escort for a blockbuster exhibition.

Thanks for the link, this should be interesting.

      Sounds interesting indeed.
What are Russians doing with these artefacts?
Why isn't Macedonia doing an "Elgin's marbles" for this?

Macedonia probably sold them to Russia in the first place...maybe even gave them away for free to "gain influence" as part of the "grand strategy" being played out by Meto vs the World.

          Here's a promotional video:

The largest exhibition ever seen in Australia from the State Hermitage, Russia. The exhibition will feature over 400 objects, spanning over 2000 years -- ma...

They note that he is 'one of the world's most controversial and important figures.'

          The official website:

Another interesting point is that on the front of the Herald Sun website, they used a picture depicting an Alexander the Great statue located in Solun. One would think, given the extraordinary size and uniqueness of the statue in Skopje this would be used to showcase the article.
The thing is, I doubt they would have gone to google images and looked up 'Warrior on a horse.' Perhaps they had trouble finding the statue in Skopje...

nice promo ....except they stuffed it up by saying "he spread greek culture"......wtf.......how can you spread something that doesn't exist?
...should have said "Macedonian Culture", I expected better from Russia!
On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

Would be nice if Macedonians in Sydney gather infront of the Australian Museum in Sydney holding banners of many Alexander quotes suggesting Macedonia not being Greek. It will bring out great awareness to people attending this exhibition.

i was looking at the auction houses for alexander the great youd be surprised what i found

Bonhams next sale featuring art will include three powerful images of Alexander the Great along with a ring 2000 years old bearing his image and two sculpted heads that come from the same era.

Head of the antiquities department of the famous auction house proclaimed that Alexander was one of the greatest generals and rulers in history, treated as a demi-god following his death. A ring comparable with the one on sale was used by Augustus. The works of art are proof of his power and the legend that has continued to this day.

One of the first sculptures of the head of Alexander the great was from the Antonine dynasty in 138 to 161 and is life size. Alexander is shown with his distinctive wavy hair and furrowed brow along with deeply lidded eyes and strong chin. It is estimated to be worth around £150,000. This marble head is clearly Alexander the Great portrayed with the facial features he was well known for.

A number of images of art were made during the lifetime of Alexander but the majority of these have not survived. A large amount of portraits come from Roman copies. They have been adapted in many different medias associated with art along with marble sculptures, mosaics, coins and paintings, these all reflect the Greek originals that were lost. The images were produced throughout

Why not, the Russians aren't any more foreign (Re anything Macedonian) than what the Greeks are.

At least Russians don't claim Alexander the Great to be Russian. If they did though, It wouldn't be as silly as Greeks claiming him to be Greek.

I think it is safe to say that Macedonians are more deserving of these artefacts than Russians or Greeks.

Then start digging guys. You should have no problem finding a lot of items on your own territory.
Odds are you will find more Illyrian, Thracian and Paeonian items then you will Macedonian.

That map encompasses 90% of ROM today Zarni. Thats what I was trying to say.
Even if you dont agree with Macedonians being Greek, you can still see that Illyrians, Thracians, Paeonians were the majority.

Voltron, your map has been deleted. Don't post propagandist trash that falsely implies Macedonia was Greek. If you're looking for Greeks in Macedonia during antiquity, then find a map of the Macedonian-Thracian coast and spot the colony.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.
