New monument of King Philip II of Macedon

The new Philip II of Macedon Square in Skopje is complete! Yes, that's right - Philip II of Macedon!

It is near the intersection of Aleksandar Makedonski Bul. and 16ta Makedonska Brigada, in the Gazi Baba district.

    Wow, looks fantastic!

I can't quite make it out from the photo, but the plaque clearly says 'Philip Makedonski' or something along those lines.

    Thanks for the photos Niko.

It looks like they're using another version with less rays, and while that too appears on certain items from antiquity, the reason why they are using it (rather than the one with 16 rays) is the problem. On a positive note, I think the statues and the concept of the theme is very good, I like it. But Phillip of Macedon will still need to look for a "warrior on a horse" to find his son.

New monument of King Philip II of Macedon

Macedonian King Philip II of Macedon Square neighborhood in Avtokomanda, Gazi Baba

The most beautiful square in Macedonia with the monument of the Macedonian King Philip II of Macedon in Avtokomanda settlement, Municipality of Gazi Baba. The memorial is composed of a signifier to a horseman pedestal (Macedonian King Philip II of Macedon), sculptures in a fountain (four soldiers of the Macedonian phalanx) and the columns in skultpuri fountain (four Macedonians). Memorial signifier is the author of Valentina skulptorkata Stefanovska, and author of the monument to Tsar Alexander III Macedonian Macedonian to square "Macedonia".

The Macedonians originates it, the Bulgarians imitate it and the Greeks exploit it!

Funny how they aren't worried about making reference to Phillip as a Macedonian yet when it comes to his son Alexander they won't even name him.

I don't get it, if they are up for historical revisionism, why don't they just plaster the ventilator over these statues and be done with it.

Plastic patriotism - so they can delude their DPMNE followers into thinking that they are advancing the cause but playing a clever game with the greeks at the same time.

The Commie style blocs in the background need to go. They make the entire scene look like something out of a Call of Duty game.

On Delchev's sarcophagus you can read the following inscription: "We swear the future generations to bury these sacred bones in the capital of Independent Macedonia. August 1923 Illinden"

Lol, as sad as that is, it's pretty funny.

They are pretty sneaky, fancy trying to pull that off kind of shit...absolutely pathetic though. The fact they try to do this stuff with some kind of 'subtlety' or 'secrecy' is more of an insult.
