Bulgaria is the poorest European country

    Interesting article on Bulgaria:

Paper: Bulgaria is the poorest European country
    Wednesday, 13 July 2011
Bulgarians remain the poorest on the European continent. 41.9% of Bulgaria's population is considered poor, which is shocking compared to the average EU rate (8.1%), reports local paper Standart.

One of the recommendations of the Council of Europe on Bulgaria's national program for reforms in 2011 is in regards with poverty levels. According to the available information lifestyle conditions in Bulgaria have worsened in the last couple of years after the country entered the EU.

Low efficiency of services hinders this country's growth, EU reports. In spite the recent changes made in the state administration the reform didn't touch the question for improving the quality of the work of the institutions as a whole and of the civil servants.

The energy intensity (i.e. efficiency) of the Bulgarian economy is one of the highest in Europe. The Council points out that the European Commission recognizes the compliance of the Convergence Programme, the National Reforms Programme and the commitments Bulgaria has undertaken on Euro plus pact with the rules and guidelines of the European Union.

The European Commission believes the deficit should be reduced to under the referent value of 3% of the GDP.
The Council also recommends the completion of the dealings contracted with the social partners on the started pension system reforms, the acceleration of some of its key measures which would facilitate the increase of the real age of retirement and the reduction of the early leave from the labour market.

Among others, the Council recommends the application of policies guaranteeing the increase of salaries being tighter-tied to the growth of labour efficiency.

Bulgaria, just like Romania has no other purpose in EU other than being cheap labour force for western European countries like Germany. They are fulfilling this role quite successfully. It`s obvious from their severe population decline and immigration rate of their youth outside Bulgaria.

Turks knows this since we`ve been there and done that 50 years ago, in 1960s.

Thanks for that Stojacanec. It just gets worse and worse.

It is not just our name we are negotiating, it is our sovereignty.
