Monument of Bulgarian Revolutionary in Greece

Something strange, Greeks have permitted a monument to the Bulgarian Revolutionary "Petko Voivoda" (1844-1900), in his native village of Doganhisar (Greek: Aisimi) in Greek Thrace. The monument is written in both Cyrillic and Greek. Here is a video, start watching from 6:20

That'll be that "Orthodox brotherhood" thing again I would imagine.
Happens with everyone except Macedonians apparently.

It may be some sort of anti-Turkish move.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

The flourishing Grko-Bulgarian friendship is something i've been looking at with increasing suspicion over the last couple of years.

In the two years, I've observed:

-The Grks allowing the Bulgarian president to cross over into Greece and allowing him to speak and negotiate with Grk farmers blockading the border - this shit is unheard of anywhere else.

        - In a village in northern Ser, Bulgarian folk groups being invited to perform at the panagir. Grkomans and Turkish Christians alike partaking happily in the festivities.

        - Increasing evidence of Grko-Bulgarian friendships and partnerships on the net:

I trust our leaders are keeping an eye open - certainly I don't doubt that Milososki would be well read on the issue.

I wouldn't put too much trust in any so-called 'leaders' that are prepared to sell out their nation. Although you're right, the Graeco-Bulgar friendship has been flourishing, probably more to do with their animosity towards common 'foes' (Macedonians and Turks).

Wouldn't it be great to get monuments erected to the massacre of Macedonians?

This is another political stunt. You may find that the next move being made by the Greek government is the erection of Macedonian heroes, except that they are renamed "Bulgarian". It fits the current nationalist policy framework of denying the Macedonians, and referring to all the 'Slav speakers' of the region as being historically, 'Bulgarians'. Its a political stunt.

hahaha, unfortunately the "orthodox brothers" seem to have decided that the poor macedonians dont need to be respected or even have their own church... you know something is up when the "orthodox brothers" allowed the Albanian Orthodox Church to be set up by a american albanian to be independent yet at the same time dont allow the MOC, the most important orthodox church in the world, to be independent....

Im betting the poor serbs must be feeling a little bit left out and let down that they are missing out in this orthodox feel good session....

Macedonians need not look for recognition from any of the other Orthodox Churches. The only group that should be consulted is the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and if they refuse to do the right thing, then that is the end of it. The Macedonian Orthodox Church will still exist, racist morons located in neighbouring states will cry foul, and nothing changes. There was never a problem when the Archbishopric of Ohrid in Macedonia remained autonomous over centuries and served the necessary purposes for our people, I don't see any reason why there should be a problem now.

As for this supposed Orthodox 'brotherhood' between some deluded Serbs and Greeks, it is all a load of garbage. It was created during their common actions of racist stupidity against the Macedonians towards the end of the Ottoman period. It has more to do with being anti-Macedonian, anti-Bulgarian and anti-Turkish, than it does with being pro-SerboGreek. The Bulgarians (who have nearly always been anti-Macedonian) are late comers to the SerboGreek party. Having resided in the thought that they can't beat the Serbs and Greeks, they have now joined them. What glues them collectively, again, is their anti-Macedonian and anti-Turkish views. Although not all Serbs, Greeks and Bulgars think this way, many of them do, and they are a sorry bunch of ignorant racists for whom logic and human rights have no place in this world.

I don't know but this might be related with the Greek governments action plan for Pomaks of western Thrace. Greek government and especially fascist LAOS and Golden Dawn organization are working to create hatred among Turks and Pomaks in there by publishing magazines, books, cartoons for Pomak kids and Pomak language programs in Greek national tv channels which depicts Turks as the enemy of Pomaks and false propaganda like Pomaks were supposedly a squad among the "pure hellenic" soldiers of Alexander the Great.

                  I`ve searched for the name Petko Voivoda and this came out in the first page of google;

Kaptain Petko Voivoda; One of the eternal aryan heroes fighting against non-white turks!

Petko was popular among ethnic Bulgarians, and Greeks because he defended the rights of the poor ones. This Bulgarian Robin Hood did not limit himself to territories inhabited by Bulgarians only; he was eager to fight for any people in Europe suffering injustice. In a way, he was the first Bulgarian to turn the ideal of united Europe into practice.

In 1864, Petko was in touch with Greek revolutionaries. He spent a year in the Athens Military School, learning the secrets of military art and tactics.

Greece had been an independent state since 1829 but vast regions of the country and many islands, including Crete, were still under Ottoman rule. While in Greece, Kiryakov learned that Garibaldi, the leader of the Italian revolution, had been heavily wounded. At this time Italy was occupied by the Austrian Empire. The two met in person in 1866, at the estate of the famous Italian. The 60-year-old Garibaldi became like a teacher to the 22-year-old Petko.

"He, the Italian hero, gave me directions that I recalled my entire life and followed in my struggle against the Ottoman oppressors," Kiryakov once said of this important friendship. Garibaldi helped the young Bulgarian to form a squad of 220 volunteers, mainly Italians, which was later joined by other Bulgarian and Greek revolutionaries, and went to Crete to lead many battles against the Ottomans.

"Greek placed monument of a bulgarian? No that is not a science fiction. On 3rd of March, the bulgarian national Holyday the memory of one of the greatest bulgarian fighters for freedom was honoured by a greek called Make. The bulgarian journalist Karbovski founded the greek patriot who raised the monument. Make wanted to put the monument in the center of the village but his fellor-villagers opposed. Now the monument is in Make's yard. Make explains that nobody in Greece knows about the deeds of Petko Vojvoda and he had only heard about his acts of heroism in Bulgaria. This, however, doesn't stop make to raise a monument of the hero for freedom of Bulgarians and Greeks.

Greeks - remember when I said we have not only issues that separate us, but also others that unites us.

DON'T FORGET WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE AND WHO ARE YOUR ENEMIES. DON'T BE FOOLED. BULGARIA AND GREECE ARE FRIENDLY ORTODOX COUTRY - THERE IS ONLY ONE ENEMY - THE MUSLIMS!!!

                  Hail Greece-bulgarian friendship!!!!!

It`s ironic that they became "orthodox bros" in Thrace after they killed each other in there in Balkan wars and then in WW-2 for the possession of that place.
