    Classic Macedonian Alcohols/Spirits

Someone asked me about some nice regional/traditional specialties from MKD. I'm wondering if i've missed anything.

    Rakija
    Mastika
    Slivovica

Is the "Antika" drink just a particular form of Rakija or is it something different?

Are there any other liquers produced traditionally that anyone knows of? One of my tetki used to make up her own liquer with dried fruits and nuts.

Boza is a nice drink, even though it's Turkish
    (it's non alcoholic though)

Zholta Rakija - don't know if that's the brand or the type of Rakija though

You want Macedonia? Come and take it from my blood!

A prosperous, independent and free Macedonia for Macedonians will be the ultimate revenge to our enemies.

Bushav, Havnt you tried Boza on High Street? Boza is very famous and popular in Stari Kraj there is no alcohol its made from Brashno. Macedonia by far makes the best Boza outside of Turkey in the Balkans.

Bushav, Antika is just another Rakija brand, to me Lozova Rakija is the best brand.

AFAIK, there are around 3-5% alcohol in Boza, so it`s quite same as beer but ofc it gets fermented naturally, so no one adds alcohol in it. You cant feel the alcohol in Boza tough since you usually don't drink Boza as much as beer

The problem with beer compared to a naturally fermented product like Boza is possibly not so much to do with the alcohol content but what preservatives and additives that are used in the manufacturing process...the issue with beer and the subsequent cause of the 'hangover' is due to the addition of preservatives to the beer.

Most presevatives are sodium based, which leads to dehydration and the feelings of hangover and headaches...

Domasna…ie home made…is the best rakia particularly a hot one in winter with a touch of honey.

Either the big deep red plums or the white magareski plums are best for slivo rakia…cant pick a favourite between the two. But just for something different try rakia from figs for a nice drop.

My Tetin (and his brothers) on my fathers side makes the Antika Rakija. Grapes are grown in Stojakovo.

They also own the butcher franchise "Promise"

Stojacanec, I didnt know that Antika Rakija comes from the Gevgelija region. I know some of the best Slatko comes from that region, especially the Smokvi.
