Thanks for pointing that out, "madjir" most certainly comes from the Turkish "muhacir", they both mean the same thing. There is also a district in Skopje called "Madjir Maalo", maybe someone can tell us more on why it's called that.

The reference I have herd some old people use it is eg against another Macedonia who is crewel or cold unfriendly uncooperative and or spiteful…come to think of it describes our neighbours to a T.

Eg saying it to someone………..arnaut eden……ie you arnaut
Eg refering to another person….kako arnaut je…he’s like an arnaut

Given they were mercenary soldier from Albania in the Ottoman you can imagine a mercenary would fill the above description.

the word Arnauti is also used in many Macedonian songs, one that springs to mind is Kaljo Kalino Devojce.

Actually they were volunteers for free. Ottoman empire went bankrupt after 1878 Russo-Turkish war and all the security forces in Macedonia has been disbanded cuz no one was able to receive their salaries. Then Arnauts took control of police stations and the leftover weaponry stashes.

This continued `till Young Turk revolution of 1908. Young Turks dismissed bashibozuks and abolished their privileges, ordered them to leave their weapons. They refused and all their armed men retreated back to Albania and started uprising against us.

Never heard of one calling them Albanci or Shiptari. When there is that odd song that refers to them, it has always been Arnauti as far as I am aware, although some references to Turks may also be in relation to Albanians rather than actual Turks.
In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.

In Macedonia the Young Turk uprising began by Albanian commanders of the Ottoman Army (Niazi Bey), who expected that after the revolution the empire would at last support their requests, but of course the Young Turks had other plans and that's why the revolts continued, the last one being completely successful with the Ottoman Empire finally accepting all demands, although by that time it didn't matter as a few months later the balkans wars began.
