URL:

This museum was welcomed by everybody in Bitola. It just shows how civilized we are. We don't forget, but we forgive.

His Vlach great-great-grandfather from Neveska, Ioannis Boutaris, was one of the Founders of Nea Filiki Etaireia - a Greek revolutionary organization founded in 1867 under the name The organization was founded in Pisoderi (a Vlach village), located 17 km west of Lerin/Florina.
The leading founders of this organization were all Vlachophones: Anastasios Piheon from Ohrid, Nikolaos Filipidis from Malovishte, Ioannis Argiropoulos (born in Bogatsko, village near Kostur), I. Boutaris, etc.
Many members of this organization were Macedonians as well, such as Dame Kusev from Prilep and others from the same town.

Nationalists of course will call it out for promoting a Turkish figure and once-again deny the multicultural history of the city. Notice Macedonian nationalists don't attack sites dedicated to Mother Teresa in Skopje.

His job as the Solun mayor is to improve the cities tourism/economy and by opening an Ataturk tourist attraction would be beneficial for his city. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a backlash from nationalists to this Ataturk opening (can't understand exactly what was opened of his) and his response would have been based on condemnation he received.
