Furthermore, before his first election he had slowly built an excellent low profile of a successful “left” businessman that was involved in the city issues in various ways. His attitude, his personal drama (a winemaker that was a destroyed alcoholic in the 80s and made a comeback) everything helped.
After his election he gradually became more like a... rock star. Note: These are real pictures of him.
That being the case it speaks volumes for the idiots who voted him in, they would be far better served by someone more qualified and knowledgeable as opposed to racist, narrow minded and confused about his true identity, in short.........in denial.........like most Greeks!

I wonder if he ever trully recovered from his alcoholism problem. He sounds like he's drunk all the time.

You bring up a religious person and a mayor. They may use the media, they may influence people because of their popularity but they are not deciding about anything in politics.
A member of the cabinet or an MP are political personas with political influence in Greece. The system with the mayors is very different to other countries. Local authorities are hardly authorities. They simply manage the money from the state for their town.
In other countries, local authorities may be very important, because they have power over many things, but not in Greece.

Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus and Crete too. The church of Greece has a different archbishop and a different juristiction.
Boutaris is of no political significance, like any other mayor. Using his popularity for inflicting upon people's minds is a different matter.
He is not important nor does he have any say in political matters through his thesis.

What has cheese got to do with running a city like solun.Obviously if he was elected as mayor then he should be able to do his job.Maybe if he is not upto it he better start eating some of that magic white cheese called fetta.I know we got auistralian cheese made up from cows milk. Its a nice less fat than the fetta cheese. There is a saying the way to a mans heart is through the food.So eat up and be merry for tommorrow you may not be mayor but out on the street.I hope its not as bad as that.

A mayor is not a significant person in greece. It's not the same as the mayor in a US city.
Unless you think that managing the sewer system of a city is of major political importance.
And I'm not even sure if the sewers are in a mayor's juristiction in greece. Probably not.
Good at being a mayor.
He is a bishop. This means that he is not the head of any church.
For a product to be Protected designation of origin there has to be a good reason
Good luck with white cheese made from cow milk. From it's color I think it should be called chinese cheese.
From it's taste, I think it should be called shit!

Not political, how is that possible? Or have you and your kin invented another type of democracy the world doesn't know about yet?
The significance I have seen first hand, take for example Mayor Juliani of New York!

Thessalonikians have a tradition of voting for canditates that are peculiar in character.
What makes you think a mayor is of any major significance?
[QUOTEHe has a peculiar character but this doesn't mean he's not good in what he was elected for][/QUOTE]

How on heaven and earth is the church related to this subject at all?
Just like white cheese, when you call it feta.

As for the people in Thessaloniki, they know better than me who the best mayor is for their city. I don't like him but I don't live there.
