It is actually quite an opportunity that has fallen into the laps of the Northdonians. The split in paths could work in its favour as the "prestige" of the union will keep the ethnic Albanians of Macedonia keen to remain relevant to the point of distancing themselves from the drug lords of Albania. But that is about 30 years away anyway and more misery is yet to come.
Albanianization in Macedonia

This is a sticky topic.

Albanian are threatening all sorts of things which makes them look unreasonable and even dangerous to peace and stability for the region at large.
This could force Albanians in Macedonia to lay low and if Macedonians had any sense they would use that to try and deAlbanize aspects of Macedonia.
Macedonians gave up their dignity to get into NATO, well now they need to make NATO work for them by putting down Albanians threats of annexation.
The best thing Macedonians could do is launch a very public effort to deal with organized crime, we all know who that's going to impact the most. The EU was already bitching that they don't want Albania because of that. Its a perfect opportunity to look like you are kissing EU ass while really sticking it to the Albanians. Ask for Europe's help in defeating organized crime.
You take away the money and power from the mafia that backs the Albanians, and even their political aspirations crumble along with it. This is a golden opportunity for the North Fyromdonians to actually make clever political maneuver.

Is there another example of this type of ludicrous idiocy anywhere in the world? I'd love to see it if there is.

Memorial plaque to Macedonian soldiers killed near Tetovo in 2001 destroyed just two weeks after it was put in place

A memorial to five Macedonian soldiers, who were killed in 2001 in the village of Gajre near Tetovo, was destroyed recently. The plaque was placed at the site of the NLA/UCK ambush just two weeks ago.
The desecration of the memorials of our fallen veterans continues. The state has an obligation to protect these memorials. The patience of our veterans and their families and the citizens in general is wearing thin, said Marin Najdov from the veteran’s association.
The killed were Isak rufati from the village of Odri near Tetovo, Vlatko Milenkovski and Blagojce Siljanov (both from Bitola), Pece Maticevski from Novaci and Koljo Kitanov from Saraj near Strumica.
Gajre is in a heavily Albanian part of the country, where much of the fighting in the 2001 civil war took place, and memorials to Macedonian soldiers and police officers are routinelly destroyed in this part of the country.

Apparently this character was a chauffer for Fatmir Dehari during his time in the Ministry of Interior. Now he is running the Public Security Bureau in Macedonia. That's some career change, something like a northadonian version of Frank Lucas, but in a dumb Balkan kind of a way.

Assistant Director of the Public Security Bureau, Shefik Bajrami, "flies eagles" on social networks. Just over half an hour ago, Bajrami posted a photo on his Facebook profile where he was photographed in a pose that symbolizes Greater Albania. The man who has the most important operational position in the Ministry of Interior, the Public Security Bureau of the Republic of Macedonia, promotes Greater Albania on social networks, a political concept that aims to unite all ethnic Albanians and territories where they live, or allegedly once lived, in one entity. In the name of the blood and the sun, the dagger and the gun, Christ protect this soldier, a lion and a Macedonian.
