The lobbyist Peter Hochegger is being investigated in numerous cases of suspected corruption in Austria, and also had Greek business contacts. In one of his interrogations in the Buwog case by the judiciary, he said the money flowed around a project about Macedonia, more specifically, to the naming of the State of Macedonia: “The Greeks wanted to prevent the name of Macedonia”
Hochegger was questioned in the interrogation on a receipt of payment in Cyprus, which did not come from his own Astropolis Cypriot society. First, he had told investigators handling it that these are obviously illegal earnings of a Greek businessman, and he should invest in this. In the same interview, however, he corrected his own information saying it had in fact gone to lobbying against the name of Macedonia.
First, a large communication project between an agency in Brussels and Hochegger Bulgaria had been identified. Then it was found out that there was no official funding, and the whole project will be powered by Greek funds. “Greek businessmen have teamed up and put into a fund, because the Greek government did not want it to lead to political dialogue. Some 100,000 euros would be invested in a campaign “to exert pressure on both sides and to find a compromise on the name. ”
The Greek government had been informed and had originally agreed, but then changed its mind and canceled the project. It had therefore not acted to provide official funds. The Greek businessman paid Hochegger the money in Cyprus directly. However, it ended in a dispute over the payment of an invoice. Written statements were issued about the transfer.
