Iglberger: Greece has no historical right to contest the name of Macedonia
Unnecessary and unjustified is the dispute around the name Macedonia because it is so called in the former Yugoslavia and it does not cause any problems, says poranashniot Secretary of State Lawrence Iglberger.
- The country is now called Macedonia was called and during its existence as a republic within the former Yugoslavia. Would this fact lead to serious problems between Greece and Yugoslavia, or between Greece and the Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia? There was a misunderstanding that zaiskruvaa occasionally, but they never reached the point of threat to peace in the region. And why would increase there? Is there something immature and foolish from ucenuvanjeto "of a nation through it and be denied membership in international organizations, whose goal is to keep peace and protect its members from aggression by nechlenovite said in an interview Iglberger program "Voice of the People" NTV television, given at his request, because as he says, aggressive campaign by the Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
In connection with the campaign by the Greek lead to Macedonia while accusing the performance of antiquization "Iglberger noted that Greece has no right to appropriate the ancient Macedonian history.
- Greece argues that Macedonia or Macedon and Alexander the Macedonian nejzvini. It is a false claim and column is a time to unveil it. The ancient Greeks believed Macedonia polucivilizirana and which for them constitute a source of raw materials and nothing more. The Rise of Macedonia during Philip and his son Alexander was greeted with notable unrest and military opposition, the result was outrageous defeat of cities like Athens and Thebes. Philip and Alexander were considered tyrants who ruin the freedom of the Greeks. The fact that modern Greeks claim that the ancient kingdom of Macedon is ignoring them is a historical fact, says Lawrence Iglberger.
He added that because of these facts, it is difficult to accept the validity of the Greek request for ownership of the name Macedonia.
- The ancient Greeks never advocated argue that Macedonia is theirs, and never accept nor Philip nor Alexander as their legitimate rulers. Greek claim about Macedonia is based on historical information and misleading because there is no factual basis, according to former senior official at the State Department.
Iglberger publicly expressed their sympathy for the Macedonian people, though, as he says, understand that it is unwise and dangerous for a foreigner to interfere in the internal affairs of two other states. - But my admiration for the strength of character which the Macedonian people have shown during this debate to justify the fact that I take sides, said Iglberger.
