I just had an interesting discussion with a Macedonian who migrated to Australia as a 10 year old in 1939. He was quite an active Macedonian who told me of his Grandfather on his mother's side who hid in a chimney in his native Visheni and shot a whole battalian of invading Turks in 1903.
He barely learned any Greek as a 10 year old pre civil war child in Greek occupied Macedonia.
He spoke of his Grandparents in Greek occupied Macedonia who were forced to learn Greek under the Metaxas fascist regime.
He invited me to review his book collection, some of which are extremely rare.
Anyway, this fellow became quite active in matters of the Macedonian Cause in the 1940's and 1950's. He went to Belgium representing Macedonians in some capacity. Upon returning to Australia, he was deemed a "communist" and made Stateless. He had no country that recognised him for quite some time. He was far from "communist", he already had significant land holdings and business in Australia.
It is clear that a Macedonian from Greek occupied Macedonia was described as a communist irrespective of any political persuasion.
