We the Macedonians are hated by our neighbors, there is no denying that, but by far we are most hated by our neighbors to the south the Greeks.
I am going to show a timeline of the Greek hatred towards the Macedonian people.
But why are we so hated by them? have we done anything bad to them?
I want to get your opinions on this issue.
I will start from 1912-1913.
1912-1913 The treaty of Bucharest
The treaty of Bucharest is the treaty that was signed that resulted in the division of Macedonia.
Our neighbors Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria were the ones that agreed in dividing Macedonia.
1946-1949 Exodus of Macedonians from Aegean
Macedonia
The exodus of the Macedonians from Aegean Macedonia was in consequence of the Greek civil war of 1946-1949.
A estimated 30,000 Macedonians where forced by the fascist Greek army to leave their homes,villages,cities and everything that they owned, and in some cases even family members.
This is considered to be genocide by the Greeks towards the Macedonians.
During and after and even before this genocide against the Macedonians a huge task was put in place to wipe out anything that was even remotely Macedonian from the names of the cities too the names of the grave stones from Macedonian to Greek writing.
1995 Macedonian flag
In 1995 four years after the independence of Macedonia from Yugoslavia Macedonia was pushed by Greece to change its national flag claiming it is a Greek symbol and Macedonia has no right to use it, note why did they wait from 1992-1995 and after the flag was made the national flag of Macedonia to say anything?
A agreement was made for the flag to be changed from a 16 rayed sun to a 8 rayed sun.
1991-2010 Macedonian name dispute
The Macedonian name dispute between Macedonia and Greece has been a ongoing dispute that has lasted over 15 years.
Again the same as the flag dispute the Greeks claim that the name Macedonia belongs to them because of the northern region which is also called Macedonia.
The provisional name put in place by the United Nations is FYROM Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia until a solution to the name dispute is found, this deeply angers Macedonians because it clearly denys the Macedonians the human right of self determination.
Macedonia is recognized under its constitutional name the Republic of Macedonia by over 125 countries around the world which include the USA,Canada,Russia,the UK and China.
