Macedonia inching towards creating 'most educated workforce'

Looks like we are working our way into the future with the skills and tools needed for our future proffesors, doctors and scientist. The longer we hold of EU talks our position in the Balkins upgrades to a country with mass potential growth on our own!

NComputing, the world's largest and fastest growing desktop virtualization company, today announced it has strengthened its partnership with the Macedonian Ministry for Information Society. NComputing is to provide an additional 60,000 virtual desktops for deployment in Macedonian schools. This brings the total number of NComputing virtual desktops in Macedonian schools to 200,000. The move further delivers against Macedonia's vision of providing One Computer for Every Student.

As a result of the partnership between the Government of Macedonia and NComputing, virtually every elementary and secondary school student in the nation now has access to his or her own classroom computing device.

NComputing Chairman and CEO, Stephen Dukker, officially made the announcement during his presentation to Eastern European ministers and education leaders at the ICT in Education Leaders Conference in Ohrid, Macedonia. As well as outlining the successful partnership between NComputing and the Macedonian Ministry for the Information Society, Dukker shared his vision of the worldwide impact and ongoing benefit of desktop virtualization.

The One Computer for Every Student initiative is the largest and most important education project undertaken in the 15-year history of the Republic of Macedonia," said Ivo Ivanovsky, Minister of Information Society of the Republic of Macedonia "Our goal is to build a knowledge-based economy in which our entire workforce is educated in using information and communication technology. By adopting NComputing's low-cost virtual PC technology, Macedonia is taking the lead in providing computer-based education for school children."

Said NComputing Chairman and CEO, Stephen Dukker, "Today's PCs are so powerful that even low-end machines are often used at less than 5% of capacity. NComputing takes the 95% unused capacity and transforms it into computing power that is then given to people who otherwise would not have access to a PC. This innovation not only delivers PC type environments at a fraction of the cost, it also massively reduces maintenance and energy costs. We are leading potentially the biggest revolution in PC availability and economics in history; and are able to do this by partnering with visionaries such as the Government of Macedonia."

Great post Makedonetz. It certainly make an excellent stepping stone to progress for the current and future generations.

Its hard to advance the country when we began so far behind but another one on the board for the government.

In Oz we are still waiting on Rudd’s election promise of a computer for ever child.

Any idea how the virtual PC device work. Is it terminals attached to a single desktop pc per classroom.

This is old news. Its another broken promise amongst many others. If Gruevski achieved only 10% of what he promised, that country would be miles better off than what it was few years ago. Its all hollow talk and Prolet it seems that only you fall for it, believeing that these things will happen...No razbirlivo e, partiski covek si i moras da propagiras nekakvi sugestii za dobroto na partijata.

These computers are costing everyone money and they are very little benefit to the ones that need it. Read the link below.

It sounds more advanced than just election promises.

I can say that being from Oz I am not affiliated with any party but I am yet to be convinced that Gruevski is some kind of anti Macedonian politician like many of those before him. Maybe it’s the distance from Oz that I am not getting the whole picture but the only thing one could level criticism against him is the slow pace of progress but then again logistics financial and other restrictions may be making it not practical.

Prolet Macedonia was the first country to have 100 percent mobile broadband coverage. The country has much potential but much need of investment.

I think those in the diaspora who are wealthy enough to invest in Macedonia feel reluctant to because of the general mistrust in all Macedonian politicians. History has made them justified of this position. Hopefully Gruevski is different and creates an environment that inspires some to take the chance and invest and then has a snowball effect.

Prolet you seem to have lost the plot. Compare those "achievements" to the promises being made and then you will see that it is a drop in the ocean. Also some of those "achievements" i am not sure how they benefit a person that irregular receives his 150 Euro wage. What difference did those "achievements" have on those people? You will also find some of those projects fall under USAID program, so i am not sure where the credit lies there for the government....Mizi date lazam!!!!

Hopefully this is true, my dream is to see that one day Macedonian youths to be known as the most intellegent and skillfull people in the balkans, and that students from other countries will be fighting for a chance to study in macedonia, not the other way around.

The slovenes have done a admirable job as well, i think their education level is like the 10th best in the world or something. If they can do it then surely macedonia can as well.

Yes it is a real shame that people who want to invest, both macedonians in the diaspora and other foreign countries, are scared to to put into macedonia due to corrupt politicians and i guess you can say corrupt lifestyle and way of life in macedonia. But we in the diaspora cant talk as we are just as bad, if not worse when it comes to corruption.....

Hopefully one day corruption can be stamped out and we the diaspora will feel more confident to invest money into things such as schools etc

We need macedonian millionares to dontate some of their wealth into the country for the greater good of our childrens future. If only we had some one like this noble dude from hungary, who dontated a full years of his income to establish a university for his people:

OziMak, Macedonia was also the first Wi Fi country too, i agree with you about the investments.

Warrior, Do you know that A1 was a USAID project too? So was shtedilnica Mozhnosti, they made those investments earlier on but not so much now. Last i heard they invested a few hundred grand on renovating a church in Ohrid not much more then that otherwise we would hear about it believe me the Americans love to promote what they've payed for.

Its funny how you are attacking this government when countries like the UK and Spain are on the verge of bankruptcy, never mind about the other countries surrounding us who had to fire thousands of workers aswell as lower their wages and raise their taxes. The worst the Gruevski Government did was delaying projects for another year or so. They spend alot of money for projects thats funny because Macedonia the third lowest fall during the recession as well being the country with the least amount of foreign debt in the Former YU, countries like Croatia and Slovenija are ahead by a country mile. This is while countries like Bulgaria and Greece aswell as Portugal,Spain and the UK loosing their credit ratings you continue to attack the Government.
