Brigadier General Andrey Botsev, Deputy Commander of the Bulgarian Land Forces, and colonel Nikolay Dotsev were stopped at the border with Macedonia, because the Macedonian authorities had not been informed about their visit, Bulgarian media reports, quoting the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence.
The two officers were going to lay a wreath at the Bulgarian military cemetery near Novo Selo on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and that was why they were in their uniforms?!
The Macedonian authorities had not been notified for their visit.
“There is no scandal. The authorities have just followed Macedonian laws, according to which foreign servicemen cannot enter the territory of Macedonia dressed in their uniforms, unless they have made a request for it in advance,” the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Vessela Cherneva said.
Bulgarian media jumped on the case and called it a 'scandal', but refused to report news of 1,000 Macedonians not allowed to enter Bulgaria to visit Jane Sandanski's tomb.
