    The Miss Stone Affair

    This is a very relevant part of Macedonian and American history. The first modern American hostage and the news that circled the globe giving the plight of the Macedonians attention. The problem is ignorant westerners calling the Macedonians a band of Bulgarian Brigands. Well I decided to look into this and found a few interesting things. Here's the first. Writings from Madame Tsilka who was also captive with Miss Stone;

    Interesting to note he indeed said Macedonians.

    Now this is the interesting thing I found about the Miss Stone Affair;

    What would a "greek" priest be doing with the Bulgarians looking for the Macedonians?

      I will post something later from it and from teh US State Dept. itself to show you that she admits there is a difference between Macedonians and Bulgarians. Although some of her book is biased I agree with you.

        He would bless their rifles before shooting on the Macedonians, as did Karavangelis with the Turkish cannons that were fired upon innocent Macedonian villagers.

            I'm begginning to suspect the the Greek clergy not only collaborated with the Turks, but also with the Bulgarians, to hunt down and kill Macedonians. Its evidence of collaboration, in my book.

              So here's the rest of the material that I have on the Miss Stone affair plus on the Macedonian struggle itself. First from Carpenter's biased book The Miss Stone Affair;

              Now the US State Dept. papers on this event.

              We have a Turk on paper stating that the Brigands are Macedonians!
              We have Mr. Eddy's letter to Mr.Hay stating that it's politics between Macedonians and Bulgarians!

              And now here's some sentiments on the Miss Stone affair through Life Magazine;

              and this snippy piece;

                So now let's look at a book that breaks it down nicely.

                  TM, the "Story of the Great War" is the first time I have seen our people described so succinctly. Excellent! Thanks.

                      If we read TM's post #8 above.
                      We note that Greeks who supported the Macedonians were excommunicated.
                      What exactly did religion have to do with this?
                      Anyone who feels the Greek church was/is somehow going to help with eternal salvation is heavily misled.

                            RTG That 'greek' priests were even working with Bulgarian troops is testament that the Macedonian cause was working in waking the people up and it scared both 'greek' and bulgars.

                              The sources you have posted are more clinical than mine with regard to differentiating between Macedonian and Bulgar, the one's I have, most of which can be found on the net, offer other insightful information about the main players in this affair, but tend to refer to the Macedonian revolutionaries as 'Bulgars' in more instances. Again though, when all sources are included as a conclusion is being drawned, as they always should, the picture is clear - The Miss Stone Affair is just another affair of the Macedonian revolutionaries.
