Energy Income Trust International (EITI), a Canadian renewable energy company that develops waste-to-energy projects worldwide, said it plans to invest some $200 million (140 million euro) in a plant for waste recycling and production of renewable energy in Macedonia, Skopje-based media reported on Monday.
The project was presented by EITI officials before Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski during his recent visit to Canada, local daily media said.
No further details about the project were immediately available.
EITI currently has 17 waste-to-energy projects at various stages in Canada, U.S., Greece, India, United Arab Emirates and Ghana, the company said on its web site.
The company reduces global greenhouse gas emissions by converting municipal solid waste to clean, renewable power, and by producing and trading carbon assets based on the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, the company also said.
