--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today at about 19:30 the Macedonian border police arrested the leader of VETĖVENDOSJE! (Self-Determination) Albin Kurti.
Albin Kurti was arrested as he was crossing the Kosovo-Macedonia border at Hani i Elezit. Up until the time of writing this press release (now 22:30), Albin is still being held in the police building at the Macedonian border point. He has been subjected to questioning by the inspectors of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Macedonia.
Albin Kurti went to participate in the observing of the three year anniversary of the movement ZGJOHU! from Skopje. Albin entered Macedonia last year and during this year, and has never been obstructed before.
Self-Determination movement issued a statement condemning a such act.
"This action of the Macedonian state demonstrates the true face of the anti-Albanian Macedonian authorities, beginning with institutional discrimination against Albanians on a national basis, and up to the arrest and mistreatment of Albanians which shows that this repression has not ended. Actions such as these occur in order to discourage Albanians from problematizing the injustices exercised by the Macedonian state against Albanian identity, rights and culture. The state that arrested Albin is the same that stops Albanians in Macedonia from officially using the red and black flag and which denies them the official use of the Albanian language," says the VETĖVENDOSJE! statement.
VETĖVENDOSJE! demands the immediate release without condition of Albin Kurti.
