Re: Serbia losing more of its territory to Kosovo. I can't see that happening to Serbia. But I can for Macedonia.

Bulgarian politicians are presenting an annex to the Friendship Treaty to state that our history has been Bulgarian up through the early 20th century.

https://www.euscoop.com/en/2018/8/22...nia-friendship

Quote:
The Bulgarian political parties VMRO-Bulgarian National Movement and Ataka requested an annex to the friendship treaty between Macedonia and Bulgaria.

The two parties want Macedonia to cease its appropriation and misrepresentation of Bulgarian history. The leader of Ataka, Volen Siderov, revealed the information to the press and said he already prepared the annex’s conditions. He states that the friendship treaty allows for such a change.

Siderov summarized his demands: “In general, it [the annex] states that Macedonia should restrain from all speculation, all attempts at ceasing and appropriating of historical events and figures: rulers from the First Bulgarian Empire from tsar Krum to tsar Vladislav (I use tsar intentionally, as there are no khans), all the historical figures related to the struggle for national liberation and so on, all the historical events relating to that era. In short, we want a single descriptive and exact demand from the Macedonian state to stop with its careless actions that relate to our history and cause upset.”

VMRO-Bulgarian National Movement, not to be confused with VMRO-DPMNE, stated: “Our predecessors never made a distinction between Macedonian and Bulgarian. Those are two words for the same thing.” VMRO- BNM stated that while they understand the country’s Prime Minister Zoran Zaev is in a delicate position with the upcoming referendum, they also remind him that Bulgaria will have the final say for Macedonia to enter the European Union.
Second link is in Eastern Macedonian (oops, I mean Bulgarian), but is a strong reaction by Bulgarian political leaders after Zaev calls Macedonian a Macedonian language and not Bulgarian.

I have a strong feeling that Bulgaria may use the Friendship Treaty to veto us from entrance into NATO/EU if we call our language Macedonian. And least some Bulgarian politicians will try to do that:

https://www.euscoop.com/en/2018/8/23...al-language-eu

Quote:
Zoran Zaev: The Macedonian Language will be Official in a Union of 500 million Inhabitants

Sofia, Bulgaria -

A speech by the Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev provoked a sharp reaction by one of the ruling parties in Bulgaria. Claims for recognition of the Macedonian as an official language were described as insane, by the VMRO party.

The words of the Macedonian Prime minister in his official Facebook page were:

"The Macedonian language will be official in a union of 500 million inhabitants!

With EU integration, all official communications between the Republic of Macedonia and the European Union member states will be run and translated into the Macedonian language, as official and recognized in a territory where half a billion residents live."

Meanwhile, the co-president of the United Patriots Volen Siderov offered an annex to the Neighborhood Treaty between Bulgaria and Macedonia. The leader of Ataka will bring the draft decision to the parliament.

The dispute over Macedonia's new name is due to be resolved at a referendum to be held in late September. It will decide if the country will make a compromise to get membership in NATO and the European Union.

All member states of the European Union can nominate an official language. Even Malta, a country of less than half a million inhabitants who almost universally speak English, nominated Maltese as an official language of the European Union.

On the same topic, from an article in Macedonian news:

https://www.magazin.mk/%D0%B1%D1%83%...5%D0%B4%D0%BE/

Quote:
Quote:
VMRO-BND say they understand the country's prime minister, Zoran Zaev, that he is in a delicate position with the upcoming referendum, but also reminded that Bulgaria will have the final say on Macedonia to join the European Union. They add that Macedonia became famous for bizarre and inaccurate historical claims regarding the history of Bulgaria and that for most Bulgarians - the country and the Macedonian population are ethnically - culturally and historically Bulgarian.

Every deemed step forward in the eyes of RoMacedonians will be a step further away from a national identity. These actions from our enemies; the Serbs, the Bulgarians, the Albanians and the Greek , should enrage RoMacedonians and bind them. Instead, it will amount to nothing and we all know it.

On Australian politics, Australia governing party has had a reshuffling in leadership and cabinet which was just sworn in. I've just come across a delightful photo taken by some journalist of now Treasurer and Deputy Leader Josh Frydenberg.

"Josh Frydenberg is congratulated by long-time Parliament House cleaner Anna Jancevski as he returns to his office after the leadership ballot"

i'm sure a shlakajnsa and a pull of his ears was involved. A Macedonian motherly thing

Macedonia, Albania to set up one-stop shop for joint border controls - econ min

SKOPJE (Macedonia), September 5 (SeeNews) – Macedonia’s economy minister Kreshnik Bekteshi has said the government is working to set up a one-stop shop for joint border controls with Albania.

The goal of the project is to facilitate free trade in goods, improve joint risk management, and increase trade volume between the two countries, Bekteshi said in a press release on Tuesday.

“Macedonia is fully committed to increasing cooperation with countries in the region, establishing a common economic zone, which will increase competitiveness for our companies,” he added.

The implementation of a joint customs controls project through the one-stop shop system between Macedonia and Albania as signatories to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures, is part of the action plan for the creation of a regional economic area in the Western Balkans, adopted during the EU Summit with the Western Balkan countries held in Trieste in 2017.
